Luggage Dolly for Non-Wheeled Case

For those of you that have used a luggage Dolly to transport your tuba in a hard case with no wheels, what did you use?

Thanks.

Re: 2 Schiller Tuba Questions

So the Jupiter style tuba is a Chinese copy of a tuba that’s made in Taiwan?

Re: 2 Schiller Tuba Questions

Yes but I guess I wasn’t aware that tubas coming from these factories were being “stenciled.”

Specifically that Jupiter because I’ve taken a recent interest in that model based on some favorable reviews.

7/8 BBb Tuba

I had an Olds 099-4 years ago that I sold. Now I find myself wanting/needing a similar size 4 piston valve BBb tuba. I would really like something that hasn’t been worn out over the years or just barely survived a middle school band room. However, it seems the newer options that don’t break the bank ...

Satin Brass Finish

Is it:

1. Unpolished brass with clear lacquer
2. Unpolished brass with matte lacquer
3. Scratched/Scotch Brite finish with clear lacquer
4. Scratched/Scotch Brite finish with matte lacquer
5. More trouble than it’s worth

From The Shores of the Mighty Pacific

Toby Hanks Sampler was the first tuba CD I owned. Once I heard that track I knew I wanted to play it someday. I did it at the end of my last Graduate recital (after a bunch of F tuba stuff) on a Thor. You couldn’t have paid me to play it on the F.

Re: eBay: Yamaha 661(?) Piggy-ish CC w/ case $4500 BIN

The 5th valve has a removable slide extension. Not making a comment as to what the owner is stating, but I do know that you can change the length of the 5th valve slide. I had a piggy while 2 of these were in the tuba studio in college. This tuba is very comparable to a piggy in terms of size ...

Re: New Equivalent of Olds 099-4?

i put them in a difference classification. the olds/bach and the conn 4j/5j play a lot bigger and richer than the yamaha, which is really a student line 3v 3/4. I’ve never played a Yamaha but that’s my feeling too. The Olds was a smaller horn that I felt could still hold its own in a larger ens ...

Re: New Equivalent of Olds 099-4?

I like the idea and price of the MackBrass horn but how does that Yamaha style compare to the Olds? It’s physically smaller correct? And is the bore size similar?

Re: New Equivalent of Olds 099-4?

Miraphone 1271 (or something like that) is described as a 7/8 size piston tuba in BBb. We have one on consignment. Decent horn but steep price for what it is with other competitors more attractively priced (JP, Eastman, Jupiter). What JP, Eastman, Jupiter models compare? Also, the idea of another ...

New Equivalent of Olds 099-4?

I had an Olds 4 valve that I really enjoyed but sold because I wasn’t playing it. If I wanted a modern day equivalent, what would that be?

I’ve been out of the loop for a while on things like this so I was wondering if anyone had any insight.

Thanks,
Matthew

Re: Mouthpiece Full Circle

Yes. I started on a Conn 15j with a Conn-Helleberg. 5 CC tubas, an F tuba and 2 BBb tubas with at least twice as many mouthpieces later, I own a Conn 15j with a Conn-Helleberg. And actually, someone gave me my current 15j with a newer Helleberg that’s not stamped Conn-Helleberg and I didn’t like it. ...

Re: NON-Yamaha cheap soprano baroque recorders

From that list, I have purchased Angel recorders for my students. They sounded fine but the clear plastic cases they came with ripped and fell apart almost instantly. I now use Harmony recorders because they come with a canvas drawstring bag. Playing characteristics were essentially the same. In ...
