Re: Should I sell it? (LM5)
I’m 99% sure I have a NOS LM5 in a box here. Should I sell it?

Daaaaaaang…
I think the LM10 or LM12 (can’t remember which one is the really shallow bowl with the undercut rim) is the one that commands four figures on the auction block.
Regardless, if ...

No shock this sold quickly.
I remember the early days of eBay, these rare 6/4 Yorks would fetch $10k or so.

Re: fads
If my chops had come back to life, I’d have definitely jumped on one of these 186s. That’s in addition to having kept the piston horns in my signature around.
My first horn was a 186 in Bb. I’ve owned a 188. One of the best horns I ever played was a 186 in C that was 4v.
Both the 186 and 188 are ...

Re: Used 3/4 tuba
@Tgsmith02, is your current tuba a YBB-321?
The YBB-621 is a nice 3/4 compact instrument. Those can be found used under $5k. Fairly expensive new, nowadays.
There’s also the Mack Brass version made in China:

Re: For You MP Gurus Out There
If you like the Bach rim, a 12 and 7 are larger than the 18. Different cup shape than the Helleberg, but it seems to work fine on rotary tubas. When I had a 188, my primary mouthpiece was the Bach 7. Good match.

That’s a really solid price. Definitely in the category where you’d have room to tweak it a bit with some smart changes and still have money leftover compared to other 6/4 horns of similar quality

Re: 1971 Mirafone 186-5U CC — $6500
Just to echo Wade’s comment. You’ll know a good 186 of that vintage after playing a scale. It won’t take long to figure out if you like it.

Re: My Meinl Weston "6465"
Odin was the nickname I had for my 2165.
I remember playing early examples of the 2165 and the low register felt “tight” and/or a bit “dead”.
When I bought the one I had, I was surprised as to how nice it was in the lower register compared to my recollection. I’m pretty sure it had something to ...
