Re: Looking for Somthing interesting

I've got a few helicons on the market. A 3 valve CC frankencon made up of a Buescher valve set a King Sousa body a 6" chunk of a Conn 10j and a King upright bell. Second is a 1909 King BBb helicon with an added 4th valve. Lastly is a 5 valve Eb/CC 1915 York helicon, the 5th valve switches between Eb ...

WTB Tuba Belt

Hello Y'all;

I'm looking to purchase one of those tuba belts to hold up an upright 4/4 tuba while standing or strolling. I think the guy from Monzl Brass uses one. Anyone selling one or can provide a link to where I could purchase one?

Thank you in advance,

One doesn't see too many top action 4/4 CC horns around these days. Sounds like a great idea, wink, wink, nudge, nudge.

Re: live Assuntos Dukes of Dixieland

That does look like a King counter weight. Maybe that's why Papa didn't mind Jimmy grabbing the horn he was playing. As far back as I could remember Papa played Gibson banjos and Olds trombones. I remember on one of his visits to L.A. back in the early 70's he needed a horn and we went to a local ...

Re: live Assuntos Dukes of Dixieland

Hey Joe, thank you for posting that video. It was great to see my Grandfather and Uncles playing up a swinging storm. I didn't realized Jimmy Dean was that tall. I'm surprised that Papa Jac didn't knock him out when he grabbed his horn.

Thank you again Joe for the post!!!

Re: Pan-American Eb sousaphones

If the MTS of those Pan Americans are like my 1915 York helicon, before the valve cluster, Bloke could hook you up with a cool rotary valve dohickey thingy that flips the horn from Eb to C. I do most of my playing on the C side but every now and then when I want to take a walk on the wild side I'll ...

Re: original Dukes of Dixieland

Thank you Bloke for this great thread. Papa Jac was indeed my grand father and Frank and Freddie were my uncles. Papa Jac was a music educator down in New Orleans, and taught countless musicians through the school system. There's even a story of him giving some tutelage to Pete Fountain on a chart ...

Re: hesitant

Joe, you did a heck of a job on my frankencon. Thank you for the great work. I'm planning on spending a couple of hours tonight getting reacquainted with horn. I didn't think the neighborhood would have appreciated me honking on it last night when I got home from your place around 11pm. Man, I ...

I'm not some big time city slicker, just a single dad that raised two kids from pre teens through college on my own. My family has been in the music biz for 3 generations. Chew on that folks!!!

Re: Albuquerque CL: Older 2341

This was to be the first stop on my whirlwind week long vacation to the southwest. Honestly, it's just the principal of the whole situation, backing out of the deal the day I was heading out for an established meeting. I could give a shirt about missing out on an old 2341, that's probably a POS. I ...

Re: Albuquerque CL: Older 2341

The seller sold this horn out from under me. We set up a meeting for Saturday morning at 10am, booked all of my travel and lodging for the trip. This morning I get an email from the seller that they got a better offer from someone else. These folks are and never have been professional musicians. I ...

Hey Joe;

When you do the mod on the York, don't forget to unpinch the lead pipe which looked to be severely pinched.

Thank you,
Mike

On my last visit to Bloke's place I had an opportunity to play the sousie mentioned above. I was blown away with how easy ALL notes were focused and how punchy the lower partial notes were. I was using my Blokepiece Imperial cup with a Sell #2 33.2 mm rim on a Sell Imperia$ shank. The sparkly black ...

Re: POLL: shorty/fatty (York-like) Holton B-flat tuba with 19-inch bell...

I like the 5th valve placement, however on my TU330 CC there isn't that much of a straight stretch out of the MTS to position a rotary valve, would it be possible to swap out the original valve cluster with a 2341?
