Re: New to doubling on Baritone

I have now spent more money on mouthpieces than I did on this baritone. But, I found one that really works well. Thank you to Martin man for the two very nice pieces. The king m21 is a hit. My son also picked it out of the group as the best combo. Now I'm enjoying this so much, im thinking I would ...

How about using the designations that the sports teams use....

Tim-bits band (for the really little kids) hahaha
Midget band
Junior varsity (JV) band
Varsity band

Re: New to doubling on Baritone

Went to my first rehearsal as a baritone ish player tonight..... missed the last 2 rehearsals because we've had a lot going on the last 3 weeks, two surgeries (different family members) and a cold virus going through everybody in the house...🤪 while I did go over the tunes and work on sections that l ...

"6465" alone does not seem like a suitable name for that beauty. How about "6465 Freya" keeping with the meinl weston Norse theme.

Wow! Stripping the horn and the new finger buttons really makes it a head turn-er. Awesome job.

Re: New to doubling on Baritone

Also, I wonder about this occasionally, what is the difference between a baritone and a euphonium? I understand that a true baritone is not conical so I'm specifically referring to American? Baritones. The biggest differences I see is the bore size and usually the front valve set up. Go.....Popcorn ...

Re: New to doubling on Baritone

Thank you all for the support. I am currently working on getting my hands on a couple mouthpieces to use. The one that came with this horn is really small. The rim I'd measures .900 or 22.86mm

Re: New to doubling on Baritone

Before the scamdemic, and with a different conductor we were playing good stuff, lots of Holst, Grainger, Vaughn Williams, etc. I'd give my eye teeth to play in a band that can play "Enigma". I honestly think Enigma is beyond our scope. But I really enjoy this director's selections. He picks a good ...

New to doubling on Baritone

I have just rejoined my local college/community band after a year absence to find that there are already 3 tubas in the group.... no Baritones. Honestly, 1 tuba is sufficient for this group.. since I recently acquired one, I'm going to play Baritone to fill that position instead. Although I'm ...

Sounds like your Frankenbone might be well suited for a jazz/ragtime player... would be cool to hear a playing demo of it... anyway, awesome job saving the good stuff...

Re: POLL !!! - pebble finish sousaphone

All of the above souzies look great. Nice work! Gives me real hope that mine will look ok when I get around to finishing it. Also, I'm astounded at how much replacement bits cost. Psycho! Thinking about doing a dark grey color on mine with a gold interior on the bell to match with the scotch bright ...

Re: Finale is Dead - You Must Switch to Dorico

I feel lucky that I have held onto install disks for programs that I bought many years ago. I have finale 2000 on my computer. It works fine, although I like the previous version better. I refuse updates and registration. I would suggest tracking down old install CDs and a computer whiz to hack the ...

Re: Bell diameter, flare, taper, etc.

So last night the marching band held a preview show. The marching tubas sounded like fat Kazoo's!!! So horrible that my wifes first comment was "the new tubas sound awful!" Now some of it is the students under developed embochure; But, these are the same three students that played sousaphones last ...

Re: Bell diameter, flare, taper, etc.

The solution is to discontinue bazooka style marching tubas and to reinstate the sousaphone. I agree wholeheartedly. The bazookas belong in drum and bugle corps. But there's no arguing with band directors who want to leach everything they can from drum corps. How about doing something original. How ...

Re: Bell diameter, flare, taper, etc.

They are king something marching tubas. They are huge. Much bigger than the G contras I marched with. On the field, outdoors, I would much rather have more clarity and punch than tone color. Low brass always sounds like mud to me when I'm in the stands. Anyway. I didnt want to discuss what horns are ...

Bell diameter, flare, taper, etc.

I'm wondering about the effects of different varieties of the above mentioned features on a tuba. For this discussion, say you could try multiple variations on a single tuba. Anybody know of actual scientific research on this yielding measurable data? Frankentubaists experience swapping bells? I'm ...

Re: Playing with teeth (dental) braces - seeking advice

Two different dentists have told me that I have age-related bunching of my front lower teeth to the point where the hygenist has trouble getting between them for cleaning, and both have suggested invisalign. I did not know there were anchors involved -- thought it was like a series of clear ...

I used a thin plastic sheet between the magnet and horn.
