Thank you.
You're telling me how to soup up my Road Runner for drag racing. I just need to change the wiper blades on my Valiant.
But, naturally, I appreciate it.

Guitar question
I have an acoustic 12 string, would like to have it amplified at times. My dad had a removable unit for his Gibson Country and Western where the pickups were mounted on a wooden plate that slipped in and spanned the sound hole. He liked this because he could remove it when not needed. Have you had ...

Re: Rochester, MN TubaChristmas -- Sat 12/14
So, I missed all the fun in Rochester, but Sunday my 30+ year tuba partner, Paul Peterson, and I played our umpteenth Christmas concert in Detroit Lakes, MN. Took the opportunity to grab this glamour shot of our nearly matching Kings! I'd appreciate it if one of you would 1. Buy a King tuba and 2 ...

Re: Finger Buttons
Give @Lee Stofer a call, he's probably got the buttons he took off my King. Good luck! Tim Those really large (King/concave) buttons are probably SAE 8-32, but - if Jinbao are M4x.7 - those King buttons are so large than a small die would probably (??) fit up within the underside and (once you got ...

Re: Laziness Guilt
Is there such a thing as a bell-front F? Or a bell-front Eb for that matter? Seems there are occasions when those would be perfect. MA, Here is my 1950's M-83 bell front Eb. https://www.tubaforum.net/viewtopic.php?p=56151#p56151 I've used her with our Dixieland band and for Offertory solos in ...

Re: Practicing and using false tones
Although my M83 Eb does have 4 valves I find that I mainly use 4th for E and F, and low Bb and A, and play the lowest pitches as pedals/false tones. They just speak easier for me. Of course, I'm still learning this thing.

Re: Tuba-Shipping Tips?
If peanuts (rather than air-filled), they need to be put into small trash bags (such as kitchen-size). Otherwise, they will migrate (leaving portions of the tuba unprotected and/or allowing the tuba to shift from the center to next to the edge of the carton)...OR (if an opening in the carton occurs ...

Re: Tuba-Shipping Tips?
When I shipped my 345 to Daniel in Germany I took the horn + gig bag dimensions to a UPS store. The young lady behind the counter was very interested in shipping a tuba that far, and was extremely helpful in selecting and modifying 2 heavy corrugated boxes to fit, plus determining adequate bubble ...

Ron,
Borrow an Eb from Brett so you'll be ready before you get there. Or drive up this way and you can get familiar with mine!

Brett,
My sister and her husband will be driving from Portland to Brainerd in either July or August. Give me a shout if you finalize something, I can run details past her.

I taught college prep music theory for several years, stressing chord analysis. I told my students - first, we learn the rules. Then, we break them.

It can be done. When our kids were toddlers both Sandy and I were in the band. We brought the kids with us, one sat by me and one sat by Sandy, they had books and were extremely well behaved. They liked to hear us play, both went on to join band in school. Worked out really well for us.

Re: Horns I sold, that I wish I had back
I have been recently missing my old Holton 345 that I'd played for so many years. I miss it's incredible earth-shaking voice and the way she could fill up our performance hall. I'm enjoying what I have, for certain, and I'm glad she's in the stable of Daniel in Germany, and I'm glad I don't have to ...

I will say for the most part "Yes."
My main horn is a good one and I've really no complaints, but my radar is always out for a certain specific tuba that has been on my wish list for a while. So, we'll see.

I'll echo the Western Swing and include Country Rock. When driving I often play CCR, Asleep at the Wheel, Pure Prairie League, Nitty Gritty DB - I love the tight harmonies. The trio I organized a few yrs ago does some CCR and a lot of country and easy old rock, but we need to add Western Swing. And ...

 Thanks for these ideas and recommendations. Oddly, I hadn't thought of shopping for used! There's a very good guitar and pawn shop in Brainerd, about an hour away. I need to give them a look. Another good guitar shop in Alexandria about an hour south. The cigar box idea is nifty, but does ...
