Re: Dry mouth/performance anxiety
I think that we are often our own worst enemies . . . I got back to playing this past summer after about 30 years, and I know where I was then, and I am not there now, and it bugs me. Our directors keep telling me how good I sound, but all I hear are the clams, and almost want to argue . . . It is ...

Re: What makes the sound?
Just blowing air into the horn gives nothing Did you watch the video? Physicists contend it does. I can just blow into mine, and all I get is basically white noise (the soft sound of air moving) . . . Not sure what "physicist" said that, but apparently not a good one (or was taken out of context ...

Re: What makes the sound?
The buzz of the lips is "exciting" the resonant length of the horn to produce a certain note (determined by valves, etc) and the resonances of the horn, brass, etc. determine to coloration and overall sound of the note played, so it's a combination . . . Just blowing air into the horn gives nothing ...

Re: Ya know ....
I can't say that I have ever looked into the specifics for sheet music, but I was always under the understanding that if a person had legal rights to a work, that making copies for personal use was completely legal - IE if you scan itnto your tablet for your use, you are fine. Giving it to others ...

Re: paperless
The real problem I see with tablet and tablet stand usage will be that people won’t have a much larger regular music stand to hide behind and use their other devices to look at Fik Fok videos during rests. So, that’ll be bad. You need internet connectivity to get to other stuff (and it's not req ...

I don't directly, but my AirTurn Duo500 pedal can be separated and connected to a switch (anything with a contact closure), and I recall (I think here) someone mentioning using a switch by Flic. (https://flic.io/shop)

Re: paperless
The product I am using allows you to tie tablets together, so if the parts are all paginated the same, all can turn together as well. Myself, not having that, I use a pedal - others use a button attached to the horn. The size of the music on a tab is only loosely related to how much you see ...

Re: paperless
@Colby Fahrenbacher You DO realize how much more food humans must eat in order to power bicycles (all of that natural gas fracking, in order to create fertilizer, etc.) and - once at the gig - how much more coal, natural gas, or fuel oil must be burned in order to charge and power all of those ...

I'm often the outlier, but - previous post and quote as an example - I can read the quoted portion more easily than the blue-background portion, and (while I'm typing this post with the white temporary background) it's even more difficult for me to see (ie. to see what I'm typing...as "typist" who ...

Phones do many things, but very few well. For Nav, a dedicated GPS is the best.. Same for kusic players, etc. etc., What they *DO* offer is many things in the same device . . . period . . . And the best choice is quite often not the most expensive . . . . I find plenty of tablets in the $200 range ...

@travisd How's the tactile response on the Flic button? I use an AirTurn Duo, which I am generally happy with, though it is off-putting that there is no "click" to when you press it. I just usually stomp on it and it's no problem. With the Flic button being designed for a finger-press, it'd be nice ...

Re: paperless
What button did you find? That was my first thought, since I would not need to worry about my foot slipping off a pedal, but didn't find anything. (had some fantasies about trying to do something like a 5th valve thumb trigger, but decided it was too much work, but then again, my AirTurn pedal is ...

FWIW, I'm hardly the "young guy" at 62 . . . I'm trying the tablet since I am sick and tired of wrangling 4 and 5 page pieces out in the wind, wrestling the 5 or 6 clips needed to keep it from flapping around and still make changes, and chasing stuff if/when it gets away . . . Interesting that you ...

Run landscape with a partial page view, and it's bigger than the paper. Foot pedal to scroll down at a comfy speed, and a lot of apps can have repeats, DS, DC, Codas flagged and follow them. (Just getting into this myself). Readers don't need much resource, so find a suitable used/refurb tablet for ...
