Re: Composers Who Don't GAF About Players
I play with a local university orchestra. Concert is getting semi close so conductor email to see when I could start coming to rehearsals. Saw one of the university trumpet players who warned me that the brass players are expected to play different pitches harmonicas in one piece. When the students ...

If the recording bell on the Martin is 24" diameter, it is a Mammoth.

New style King 2341 Conn 56j finger buttons silver
FS : silver new style King finger buttons. My understanding is that Conn 56j tubas used the same buttons. For those of you making a Frankentuba with King valves, these buttons work nicely with Olds O-99 top caps…

@arpthark There should already be a brace from the upper third tubing to the top bow. Is it missing?
I have one (in silver) that I’ll donate to the cause.
Pretty nice looking instrument!

Hmm, my smaller York (15” bell) Eb that is flipped to be 4 valve front action with a rotor 5th valve might be a good match. As my slightly larger Martin Medium Eb project gets closer to completion, I suppose selling the York is an idea (that I hadn’t thought of until now). I’ll send an email.

Re: Allentown CL: Eb
The York "Medium" (15" bell) Ebs do pretty well in that regard. They are pretty small and sound like a euphonium on steroids, but play pretty well. High/low pitch ones were 28" long. Low pitch only models were about 32" long.

That is a gorgeous York. I’m pretty sure it’s a model 730. Truly stunning. And yes, a giant mouthpiece shank.

Re: Playing Stands… WTH?
If the microfiber cloth idea doesn’t work for you, nor turning the horn 90 degrees to ‘normal’ on the saddle, perhaps making some sort of new saddle that has a shallower depression. Enough depression to know you’ve got the tuba on it, but not enough to “cradle” it. If you draw out what you’d like, I’ ...

Re: lathe I totally agree. Mine is a Rockwell wood lathe with a metal working tool rest/xy slide thingy that Rockwell offered for them. I’m sure it’s not nearly as accurate as yours but… I had a ferrule that needed to be just a hair bigger. Chucked it up and opened it up just one hair. Perfect fit. S ...

Sacramento, CA to SoCal
Is there anyone driving past Sacramento, CA on their way to SoCal and have room for a tuba case? If so, I'd cover your fuel bill (unless you're pulling a 30 foot travel trailer, in which case I'll make a solid contribution) and can meet you just about anywhere in SoCal. If this might be a ...

Nice choice of instrument, Mark. Thank you for taking the time to post these every Monday night/Tuesday.
That one was a high/low pitch I believe. The (only) low pitch were about 32” tall.
Thank you again!

Re: Cerveny 681 meets Besson new standard…
I don’t have an answer about the bell swap.
But
I do have a question.
Can you describe your York 714 please (ie number of valves, front or top action, recording or upright bell (diameter?) please? A picture would be quite helpful?
I haven’t heard of a 714, hence my curiosity.

Re: My Willson 3200RZ Repair Thread
There was someone here (or there…) that ordered, received, and shared about some replacement linkages, paddles, etc. from them. To me, they looked nothing like what I had ever seen on any of their instruments I’d ever seen. So, what? I don’t know. A pattern? Just thought it was weird. bort2.0 ???

I’m sorry to ask but are those all frisbees in the background of the third picture? If so, that must be the world’s largest frisbee collection!
