Re: thinking of going to one tuba
In my 30 plus years of playing tuba i have used only one instrument.. a besson soverign 981 EE flat tuba.I can function quite nicely on other keys of tubas and currently own a Yamaha Neo BB flat tuba that i rarely play. The besson has been used in brass quintets,10 piece brass ensembles, british brass ...

Re: Eb tuba and Canada
I was born and raised in the heart of western Canada and have been playing ee flat tuba for over 30 years.I keenly follow the buy and sell pages in this part of the world with great interest.I really have not noticed more ee flat tubas for sale than other keys of tubas.

Re: Bill Bell / VW Concerto -- recording?
I remember many years ago buying a copy of this talked about CD from Dan Oberloh's shop out in the Pacific Northwest.Sadly, over the years and several moves later the CD has gone missing.I do not remember much about the CD other than the recording quality was very poor.I see that the CD is still ...

I just thought i would share the well known composer,Alfred Reeds thoughts on the tuba playing string bass cues in his piece titled Russian Christmas Music."The long solo pizzicato line for the string basses, beginning at 118 and continuing until five measures before 155,although cued in the tubas ...

Re: Pizzicato on tuba
True.Alot of bands play this classic.I just found it interesting that the composer advised that the part not be played by any other instrument but the string bass.Once we get back to our rehearsal space i plan to copy out the paragragh in question and try and post it here. For the record when i ...

Re: Pizzicato on tuba
Just before christmas the concert band i play in had the opportunity to play Alfred Reeds Russian Christmas Music. The tuba part is very sparse but the string bass part is not.As a result the tuba part is full of string bass cues.In one section there is a very long pizziacato section cued in the tuba ...

Re: Brass Trios
There are so very many trombone trios. I’m guessing that your horn player really doesn’t enjoy reading bass clef... We have a very good horn player that could easily read bass clef so no problem there.I have looked into the avenue that you suggested and we just might go that route.Just a quick trip ...

Have been playing my besson soverign 981 ee flat for close to 30 years now.Solos,quintet,10 piece brass ensemble, wind bands, brass bands and the occasional symphony orchestra show.I never learned to play cc.Not once in that time has a conductor been critical of my choice of tuba.It has a lovely dark ...
