Wonder if this is made in the same factory as the Packer BBb. https://www.ebay.com/itm/156352264117?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=i1m9hzjlTh2&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=loz4dzWGTkS&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY I don't know the answer to your question, but some years ago I read that ...

Wasn't there some poor soul that played his tuba for years outside of athletic events in Seattle and got beat up by some reprehensible thugs, losing his life therefrom?

Re: Having heard two fine players play bass trumpets tonight,

Dave Fedderly told me many years ago that serious orchestral players playing a bass trumpet part used instruments made by Thein. I see there presently is a Thein bass trumpet for sale on the board here.

Re: 2 Schiller Tuba Questions

Please, do yourself a favor and buy a Jupiter or Packer if that's what you really want. My experience with Laabs is that Schiller instruments are sold as-is with no warranty. You will be SOL, as I have been, if there's a problem. I hope there are people who have been thoroughly pleased with their ...

Yes, indeed. I even used a Bach 3G on my Czech euphonium.

Joe, do you have a JP double horn with mechanical linkage and Geyer wrap? If so, what's the model number and what's your very best price? Please shoot me an email if you can't post your price here. (Factor in shipping to Berkeley CA 94707 in San Francisco Bay area.)

Re: Interesting finding with polka tuba sound

Re "use of air" theme, I agree that a ton of air does not solve all problems. However, I feel that air FLOW is very important; i.e., keep the air flow constant to whatever extent is necessary to support the phrase and melodic line. Sometimes that can mean a slow, warm air flow. Sometimes it can be a ...

Right. Looks just like the flat 2 whole steps on my 188.
I had an old Miraphone 186 from the 60's or 70's that a had a two whole-tone drop on the fifth. Messed with my mind doing the Snedecor. Ha.

Different Valuations

Situation: Two tubas, identical, EXCEPT one has nickel silver inner and outer slide tubes and the other has brass inner and outer slide tubes. Question: What should be the percentage difference in prices?

I owned a Weril 3/4 CC. Terrific horns, light weight, good intonation, and a sweet voice beyond belief. Built like a tank. Low C# seemed to be nonexistent even with slide pulls. But, how often, if ever, is that note called for.

I didn't have those brain farts with fingerings about 20 years ago, before more than one severe event that had lasting brain effects. I feel lucky that I'm given opportunities to play where the occasional fart isn't a disaster. Mary Ann, I am impressed with your ability to play so many instruments ...

Interesting post, Dave. I like your research. What's next? A story on this giant's clothing and shoe size? And, I am not being a smart ass by posing this question. I truly am interested in what a monster-size man like Richardson would have worn and walked in. That interest stems from the problems my ...
