I want to send a Cherveny 641 Bb tuba from Copenhagen, Denmark to southern Germany for a reasonable price. I cam package securely, either in the dimensions 120x55x65 cm, about 20 kg, in cardboard box with wooden enforced corners and plenty of soft stuffing, or 80x60x130 cm, about 35 kg, on a half ...

Re: How common are five-valve euphoniums (not DBE)
My experience with 5 valve Eb bass tuba is pretty much the oppsite than Mary Ann. I play a MW 5+0 frontaction piston Eb tuba, where the 5th valve circuit is rotary, and the largest in diameter. I never use false tones, the correct fingering (involving a 4th slide pull for F) speaks in all cases ...

I think Lätzsch in Bemen made one some 15 years ago, saw once a picture. Its with rotary valves. Never had a chance to try it, though.

Re: Side hustle vs hobby
If you pay to play, its an addiction. I am severely addicted to low brass playing. Comes with well known additional conditions as TAS ( tuba aquisition syndrome) LBP (low brass plumbing) and FWB (forgetting wifes birthday).. .. have to leave now for some tuba tooting. ..

Re: 3-Valve Compensating Modification Theory
Hmm. Option 9) 5 valve non compensating does not need to use the very sharp 4+2 tritonus, the 5th valve can be tuned to give a very reasonable, slightly flat 2+3+5 tritonus, and a pretty good, slightly sharp 4+5 quint. These two combinations are the main raison d'etre for the 5 th valve tuned as a ...

Re: Bolero trombone, and tying into a familiar tuba topic
Well, a .525 bore trombone is IMHO a very fine instrument for the Bolero solo, especially if played with a matching mouthpiece. I would prefer a Bach 6.5 size, or a Yamaha 48 size, of whatever brand the player likes the most. Bell size is actually not that important for the tonal color, its more ...

Re: If you own use BOTH a bass tuba and a contrabass tuba, does this trick work for you?
Yes. It does. I am mostly switching between a MW Eb 5v tuba and a Holton/Bach bass trombone this way. Very beneficial to switch to another instrument and play the same music with different technical challenges. Its like my brain ceases getting blocked in technique, and starts thinking music again ...

Re: budget magnetic dent removal set?
I bought a 3 cm diameter strong magnet and various steel balls, the larger ones hollow, from Amazone. Some I did fine sand and polish myself, others where perfect. Works just fine. I glued a thin plastic sheet on one of the flat surfaces, to avoid scratching the instrument, otherwise I just use ...
