Re: Your thoughts on a Miraphone 186-4U BBb tuba

Yep!. It appears to be Lee who's selling it. I haven't been to his place yet, but I've talked with him via phone and texting. I definitely would have no issue with trusting him, his work, or his opinion.

Go play the horn and make your decision.
Enjoy!

Re: Your thoughts on a Miraphone 186-4U BBb tuba

I have one that was made in 1970. Love it. It's now at the point where it needs a bit of work done on it, but I enjoy playing it. Looking forward to having the work done, then seeing how it plays after that.

Diego...... You don't know me, but your father was kind enough to talk to me via phone a year or so ago regarding Colburn & LA. My daughter was slated to audition out there, and we were looking for info regarding location, places to stay, safety, etc. Anyway, we were there and you out auditioning ...

Father Goose!!

Who blew tuba on the soundtrack for the movie "Father Goose".... 1964? This movie was on the Turner Classics channel last evening..... I'd seen it several times, previously. Music was written by Cy Coleman. A former student, and now friend of mine, knew him. Because of this, I paid closer attention ...

Does anyone know of a standard concert band arrangement of this tune and where to get it?

Re: Your sound... Discuss

Bloke..... I can, in a way agree with you, but as I normally see it, temperature is an atmospheric condition that might affect the sound AFTER it is produced by the player, and as it leaves the instrument. The horn would react to the temperature ........ "pun intended"...... to a degree, depending ...

Re: Your sound... Discuss

Well......... as we all know........ there are only three variables when playing a brass instrument.......... the instrument, the mouthpiece, and the player. When all three line up like the lucky stars, you have the best of everything. When one of those three is "faulty", the search for the correct ...

Who made it and where is it?

I believe this was identified before, but it was just sent to me by a friend, and I can't remember what (meaning... who made it) or where it is. Can someone identify it (again) for me?

Thanks.

Re: No hires

Accepting average isn't what I was talking about. The people I've been following and listening to, regularly, are way beyond outstanding!!! Average is what you might get when you have to find someone at the last minute as a pay per service sub. At that point they'll take just about anyone to fill ...

Re: No hires

I can understand NY and Boston, etc., having no hires in their searches. They're on an incredibly high level. But there are many others that are one or two, or even several..... many, steps below those that are acting like they are God's gift to the music world. Being a former music educator, I ...

Re: No hires

My daughter, some of her friends, and classmates (Eastman grads, Rice grads, other university grads and grad students) have been auditioning for a number of orchestras, from regional to orchestras in very, very, well to do communities across the country. Several of the orchestras announce after ...

DonO: I had gotten very ill about four or five years ago....... severe cold and sinus infection. I was traveling at the time, so I was going to Urgent Care places until I got home. Cutting to the chase......... the virus attacked my Thyroid. From there things spiraled downhill quickly. End result ...

Re: Music theory

I find it truly amazing that those who write doctoral theses....... pass, get their grad/doctorate degree, use that thesis as the impetus to then write a textbook further pushing their original point with their own slant on the subject matter. After getting a job teaching at a college or university ...

Re: Why the X on my new Laskey 30H (EU)?

It's merely a demo mouthpiece. Nothing different about it. (I asked the Laskey rep what the "X" meant.) Last summer I was lucky enough to be "lent" several tryout kits to try a plethora of mouthpieces. Every one of them had that "X" on them. After deciding on which model I liked, I was given the ...

Re: King 1240..... detachable bell.... front

Arp!!........ ..........or No Deal!! As suggested, I'm gonna keep it out and play it more. It's much easier to center the tones on it, the response is nice and easy, I don't tire as fast, and I need to get used to the 1-3 valve combination again for low C & F. I can't tell you how many ...

Re: Proud Papa but also a little bittersweet

My opinion........ Good parents always want their offspring to turn out better than themselves. Not only that, but good parents always work at facilitating things toward that goal. It's not an easy job by any stretch and it may be costly, monetarily....... but it's always worth the investment ...

King 1240..... detachable bell.... front

Today I was forced to get my old tuba out and practice for a rehearsal tomorrow evening. My Mirafone 186 took a tumble out of it's stand the other day. My heart stopped when I heard the crash. Crinkled the bell a good bit, but it's at the shop as I type, getting hammered back into shape. Anyway, in ...
