Re: Never used
I think it's a 34J. Also the loop in the third valve tubing most likely means it's pretty old. It would be interesting to see what kind of shape the valves are in. There's a raincatcher that would fit it on the Bay right now. Ed

Re: King recording bells
The picture on the Bill Bell record where he's standing with his King I think, shows one with the "polite bell front" that faces more up.Joe Novotny's C King was here for a play overhaul years ago and it accepted the bells from my 1241...so it would also accept a sousaphone bell.Yorkie, I'm thinking ...

Re: EBAY - 1918 York and Son's 4valve BBb
I can't tell definitively from the pictures but these(at least the one I had) had a little loop after the main tuning slide to go from high pitch to low pitch. Cool old feature from the deciding what would be the official pitch. If this horn has that, a polish and possibly a valve job later you ...

Re: King recording bells
I can confirm this having owned two Bb and one Eb fixed bell front horns as well as four detachable bell fronts. My section leader at the West Point band referred to the detachable ones as "polite bell fronts" and had himself played on one of the big rotaries for quite awhile. That's all I got, Best ...

Re: Pronouncing Geib's name
This is just a maybe interesting sideline. While I was in the West Point band I was lucky enough to take from Herb Wekselblatt who was with the New York Met at the time and he made references to Mr Geib who he referred to as Fritz Geib. The thing that stands out in my memory Geib never used ...

It could be the angle of the photograph or just my terrible eyesight but it looks like a 184 or a 185 to me. Regardless, seems like a Very good price. Best, Ed

Wow! I have never heard a better low brass section and not being able to speak or read Germen would love to know who they are, what group they are affiliated with, and what is the big silver tuba. The guy has a killer sound. Best, Ed

The Flintstones
I kind of learned how a tuba sounds and figured out the fingerings while watching The Flintstones around 1963. I hadn't watched an episode pretty much since...so...sixty years. But I stumbled onto a couple of episodes the other day and WOW that cat on the tuba is Great. And they knew how to write ...

Re: Advice on what "wrap" to use....If any ???
I used to use bicycle handlebar tape for that. You just have to secure it at both ends because it doesn't have glue on the back . I'm talking about the plastic kind. The cloth stuff has/had glue on the back and would absorb moisture. Best, Ed

Tim, I think Bill (Doc) has one and has posted himself playing it. Sounds great! The video is on here somewhere but you could probably shoot him a PM and ask him what he thinks. Best, Ed

Re: ergonomics and 6/4 piston "York"-style C tubas
My old King 1241 and an old 4 valve top banger 4/4 York I had featured those shorter leadpipes and I found that it I was sittimg squarely on the chair with the leadpipe hitting me dead on the bell actually pointed somewhat forward as opposed to the right or left. And I suspect that was what it was ...

Just remembered that Dan Schultz(Tuba Tinker) did a non King bell on one a few years back. I don't know what he used but it would be another possibility as to something that's compatable. Ed

Re: WTB King 1291 Bell
I got one for my horn from Kanstul about 15 years ago and it was 1100.00 bucks then. It fits perfectly and works great sonically. I don't remember who bought out their tooling ...or, if they will still make just bells. but it's decent place to start your search. Maybe start a thread on here about ...
