Re: Eb tubas
IMO. There are already some good advice and responses. Also, I am sure your teacher has good suggestions and knows you better than any one on this board, including me. My bass tuba E-flat preference is the one I have had since 1988, a 3+1 1970 era Besson, with a 15-inch bell, and small shank lead ...

Re: Question(s) for the older player
In my opinion it depends on the player (health, fitness, experience) and what playing one does (band, orchestra, small ensembles, jazz, etc). Not all 4/4 are the same size and playing characteristics. You will need to find what fits you and your playing situation, but I do not think a 4/4 should be ...

Re: Best do-it-all CC tuba that isn't 186/188
I have done this on my HB2 (Rotor) equally as well as I could have on my old CC186-5U.
Changing nothing but the mouthpiece, what CC tuba could equally:
Play Respighi in a full orchestra
Play Berlioz in that same orchestra
Play a brass quintet
Play a recital level solo.

Re: Do you play Eb tuba?
Yes - A 1970's Besson with 15-inch bell and small pipe. Has a more compact sound vs. the 19-inch bell e-flats. Very good BQ horn. Good on most solos. Works in band with other tuba mates in the section. Works in smaller bands on its own. Maybe a drawback is the bell points differently then most tubas ...

Re: Thoughts on HB 290?
I seldom if ever post. I just happen to be on this forum this afternoon and saw this HB2 string. I have had a HB2 since 1983. I bought it new from Mr. Hirsbrunner in Sumiswald. It had the brass/plastic composite rotors, which did seize when playing outside in hot weather (PA and VA) and sometimes ...
