Re: Mouthpiece suggestions for my Besson 788 BBb Tuba

I've been wrong before plenty of times, but I'm pretty sure - again - that this is the tiny little B-flat with a 13-in bell yet with a .689" medium large bore size. Probably most any mouthpiece would work, but it probably depends on what type of sound someone wants to get out of the instrument. It ...

Re: Mouthpiece suggestions for my Besson 788 BBb Tuba

@2nd tenor Thanks for the feedback :) I do like the feel of both Bach/Yamaha mouthpieces, but I may lean towards the Bach 25, but I still want to get a yamaha 65 as well. P.S. I actually play a Yamaha yeb321s Eb (4v) at the corps so that wick 2 or something similar sounds tempting for that :D

Re: Mouthpiece suggestions for my Besson 788 BBb Tuba

So it's been some months since i've been by, and I want to thank those who have posted. I'll be looking into more of those mouthpieces but I've also come across a Yamaha 67C4 mouthpiece that has worked pretty well for the BBb's upper range. Yeah I know BBb basses usually don't play in the higher ...

@WakinAZ Would you happen to have the Yamaha 67C4 available for sale still ? I'm interested.

Mouthpiece suggestions for my Besson 788 BBb Tuba

Current mouthpieces I have: Vicent Bach 24AW Mirafone C3 (very old) The reason i need some input is because i usually use these on my Eb Tuba, but when I use them on my BBb Tuba, I feel the upper register notes, mainly my higher F and G above the staff (treble clef), are noticeably sharp even when ...

Show us your Oom-pahs!!!

I haven't seen a section/topic where we could show off our tubas, euphs or any low brass that we play or anything, so I'd like to be the first to start up and hope to see the many different horns that we have/had. https://scontent-hou1-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/278777259_10158863320100814 ...

That's nice looking horn, sad to hear you didn't pursue learning Eb Tuba :tuba: but I hope it will get a good home :D

Re: basstrombasso

One of the things that has held me back (other than not having a bell section to work with) is the prospect of it not being “accepted” by those who are used to playing next to a traditional slide-bass trombone. I’ll be taking my newly-constructed E flat cimbasso to some quintet rehearsals (and maybe ...

Welp, I ended up just donating that euphonium to a Salvation Army up in Springfield, MO. A buddy of mine there says they can make some use of it even with its flaws, so I was happy to send it to a new home! :tuba:

Re: Quieting my tuba's piston valves ... any suggestions?

I ended up doubling the makeshift felts and helped the issue, thanks for those who gave suggestions and input :tuba: Will also invest in replacing my valve springs, i get a slight click when I press down on my 1st valve, could be that spring might be a bit long, unless it's ok to cut it down a bit ...

Quieting my tuba's piston valves ... any suggestions?

So, I own an Indian made 3/4 Eb Tuba (Looks to be a stencil of a Boosey & Hawkes Regent 3/4 Eb Tuba) and I would like to make the piston impact quieter, so some of the things I would like to do: 1. Material suggestion for underneath the buttons, they originally didn't come with felts underneath them ...

Re: Euphonium needs to be trimmed to play in Bb, still quite a few cents flat :|

He means how cylindrical are the ends, versus how tapered. If there is a lot of taper in the ends of the bow it is hard to trim and have it fit back on the horn. If the ends are fairly cylindrical some trimming and then re-tapering of the ends can sometimes be done, but that is pretty expensive ...

Are you saying that it is even FLAT for A-natural? How cylindrical are the two "legs" of the euphonium's bottom bow? https://www.ebay.com/itm/313642342785 Measurements for outer diameter of main tuning slide's legs: 0.7875" and 0.5955" Measurements for euph's bottom bow diameters before the curve ...

Re: Euphonium needs to be trimmed to play in Bb, still quite a few cents flat :|

You would need to trim about four inches from each slide leg, or 8" from the bugle to move it up that far. That is more than a half step flat, it's nearly three-quarters of a step flat. (A half-step in pitch would be 100¢, and a six-inch reduction of overall length, or 3" per slide leg.) Being 132¢ ...

Checked the tuner, it's about $1.32 flat, with the main tuning slide all the way in

So my open C is pitched in B
