Re: striking the bell
I feel a little sorry for the OP who had no idea what he was getting into by asking that question of the TFFJ! that's for sure, and he is probably thinking that all tuba players are w%&kers so he is not only including hitting it with a drumstick, but also letting the percussion player hit the bell ...

The company Leopold Müller GmbH is the industry reference: https://www.mueller-lack.com/ Closer North is probably Büchel in Bonn, they offer Lacquering on their website, but I don't know if they do it themselves: https://buechelmusik.de/unsere-taetigkeiten/ Also Adams in the Netherlands can offer t ...

Re: piano hinge experiences - cases
What I'm getting with the separate sheet metal hinges - even though I've tried to be careful with the really big molded case - is wibble-wobble when I close the case, and I have to schmooze the halves back together properly so that the metal tracks line up along the hinge side - in order for the ...

searching for a good lacquer workshop (Europe)
Hello everybody,
Does anybody know a good lacquer workshop in the north of Germany or in The Netherlands?
My F tuba needs to be lacquered (is now raw brass) and I really don't know where to go.
Thanks and greetings

Re: I want to know about my old Amati tuba
The reason cerveny tubas look like miraphones is that at the end of WW2, the Czech craftsmen fled the communist rule of the east, took their tooling with them, and started miraphone in West Germany. At the time the cerveny model was known as the 68. It became the miraphone 86, and changed to the ...

I don't think that the person who has a mega dollar (euro) horn has it to show off, but has fallen for the marketing surrounding that horn (I can sound just as good as the pro players endorsing that horn)

... It's a very military-like attitude that they obviously have about their bands, and it's almost as if (and maybe they actually did in the past...??) the bands own all of the instruments (as a "chest of" viols or recorders - during the Renaissance era), and they are the correct ones and the ...

I am very happy with the 2 tubas ( mira 188 and B&S symphonie) I have. They fit all my playing needs: ensemble, Wind band and orchestra. The only thing that is unreachable for me is Brass band because I don't have a Besson or similar. There is however one kind of tuba I would like to own but is ...

Re: Mutes
I once played with a fanfare a piece in which first a Eb tuba and after that a Bb tuba had to play with a mute. (I was a hired hand so the original members of the band played the muted solo's) The only mutes the fanfare had were practice mutes. So I brought my straight mute (Wick) with me and put it ...

wow... I guess (??) the owner lived in that mansion/villa... You can feel like the owner of Schüster. The villa in front of the factory is indeed the Villa Schüster. It is converted in a multi appartments house. The owner of the top floor does sometimes rent his appartment out. https://www.booking.c ...
