Re: "wind symphony"...Just stop. (notice: This post is a band director troll.)

I think there is some kind of unspoken rule about not using terms like "4th band" or 5th band in a school setting, Even 40 years ago when I was in school they were using terms like "wind ensemble" and "concert band" when a school has more than 3 or 4 different band classes (I've seen as many as 5 in ...

Curious... willson 3v compensating Euph

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwcT-ud_XJw Chuck did confirm this is a chinese built willson, so it will be priced in between the 3 valve and 4 valve non compensating Eastman Euphs. Could be a winner! I do prefer getting 4 valve instruments into the hands of students ASAP, but if someone is dead ...

Re: Lewisville, TX GovDeals: YBB-641

Middle school kids are playing these? :smilie6: At the risk of repeating myself, who o why do band directors keep on buying these not so great horns when, for the same or less money, they can buy Miraphone 186s? :eyes: I can't stand them because of the terrible valve action and the upper range ...

Re: King 2280 euphonium compared to Yamaha 321 euphonium

ha! that reminded me. the first time my symphony did the planets, they were a little cheap in the hiring department, so they gave me doublers pay to cover both the tuba and euphonium part, with the instructions to just pick whichever part I thought was more important at the time. It wasn't the ...

i played a pixar concert and the full movie of Home alone. In both concerts only the conductor had a click and that was all we needed. Both were sell out concerts and a lot of fun.

Re: Flat Half Step 5th Valve Purpose

Between my 1st cerveny 68, my piggy, and my 601, I played 4 valve cerveny CC tubas for decades. How? Because for whatever reason, 1-2-4 gave me a near perfect F, E was 2-3-4, and if I mashed 1234 and just didn't try too hard to get the low note, I could play a nice Eb. D was difficult but possible ...

Re: Flat Half Step 5th Valve Purpose

my question has always been "what does a flat half step get you that a flat whole step does not"

for instruments with a sharp 2-4 combination, 235 is always an option
