Re: two customer tubas which are being checked over for them to sell
My 1930s Alex has these issues: Gs must be played 1-3 F#s must be played 2-4 if sustained 1-3, 2-3, 1-2 required for fifth partial D, D#, E 3 for E and A below the staff That is the same as my 70s Alex except my F# is fine. I play my new Alex with the same fingerings as the 186 I had in college and ...

Re: two customer tubas which are being checked over for them to sell
One of them is a vintage Alexander C with five valves which has been converted to right hand thumb, and with the typical noble sound Thinking Bloke may take a liking to Alexanders if he plays them enough! :tuba: :smilie7: maybe if B-flat... Compare the tuning characteristics of your B-flat to your ...

Re: Cool find: "Adolf Oehms / Hannover" F tuba
It does look very AlexanderISH - if not totally an Alexander. My BBb 163 from the first half of the last century has the same braces, only the ends are pointed and the clockwork springs look very similar. My CC 163 is also from that era (likely 1930s) and the brace feet are identical to this F tuba ...

Re: Quality of Gard bags?
I have a couple Gard wheelies - had them for 10 or so years with no issues except replacing the wheels once on one bag. I also have two gig bags and have had zero issue with them. Good quality and great service on getting new wheels. Your mileage may vary.

Re: For You MP Gurus Out There
I bought one a couple months ago because it was an oddity to me. It was basically a Conn 2 cup with a Bach 18 rim - marked A. EASTMAN. I know that's not what you are looking for, but you may want to look at some of the cheapos on Amazon - you may find what you are looking for.

Re: Eastman Mouthpiece
I got one today from a friend. It is truly a mullet of mouthpieces. For those of you not from the south, a mullet is a haircut that is short in the front and long in the back - (business in front party in the back). This thing is a Bach shape, rim(medium wide/not flat) clone of a Bach and a cup ...

Re: Eastman Mouthpiece
I included it in the sale of the tuba with the original care kit, etc. or I would send it to you. Ask around and see if someone with an older Eastman has one they’ll part with. I appreciate it - maybe one will pop up! If so I will probably grab it. It just intrigued me that it played as well as it d ...

Music Prep for Christmas
No, I am no longer a "professional" musician. What I do now, I do because I love to play music. That being said, this time of year can get a little overwhelming for even for us that don't make a living playing. I was just looking through what I will play publicly between now and Chirstmas day - over ...

Eastman Mouthpiece
I borrowed a mouthpiece from our community band director last night because I forgot mine. It was marked A. Eastman and looked like a Bach/Conn hybrid. Looked like a Bach, the rim felt like a Bach, but the cup looked more like a Conn 2. I came home and looked for one online, but couldn't find one. I ...

All I can speak of is the 184 I own. It uses beginning band book fingerings and plays very well in tune.

Re: "wind symphony"...Just stop. (notice: This post is a band director troll.)
I never did understand the Wind Symphony thing. Wind Ensemble, as Fennell did, was one person per part. I guess a Symphonic Band may include a bass fiddle and a harp? To me, they are either marching bands or sit down bands.
