Standing harness for tuba
Ok, I'm sure this has been discussed here and the other place ad nauseum, but I just never paid attention...
Can someone suggest a tuba harness, to use while standing/walking, for a 4/4 CC tuba that does not have harness rings (and no desire to add rings to it)? Does such a thing exist? What does Willi Brandstrotter use?
I'm preparing for some sort of alternative outdoor tuba Christmas caroling... In lieu of tubaChristmas...and would prefer a little help from a harness to hold up my horn.
Thanks!

Re: Standing harness for tuba
There’s a lady in Austria/Germany who makes a belt with a clip on it. Excellent quality and works really well. You still have to hold the horn but you don’t have to hold it up. I’ll see if I can find her name.

If you don't mind sharing your thoughts here, I think a lot if us(read: "I") would love to know what you think of it, and whether the idea could be improved on as a simple diy project.

Re: Standing harness for tuba
It looks as though somewhat of a more shapely rear end is required for the proper ledge to suspend things upon. It also looks like a pronounced stomach or pot belly may interfere and or push the whole deal down. If someone is prone to needing suspenders this could be an issue with this design

250+ euro and a long shipping time from Europe. Not going to be helpful before Christmas. Pretty neat, though!

Re: Standing harness for tuba
I believe that's what Willi uses. I tried to make something similar with a cheap back belt, but obviously the design of mine was all wrong.

Re: Standing harness for tuba
Didn't a forum member make one of these using a tool belt as found at Home Depot, etc. TN, I am pretty sure it was.

I tried, but the belt shape was way wrong. Someone else might have tried as well.

Carol Jantsch uses a belt like this occasionally.

Re: Standing harness for tuba
Maybe we should design one with suspenders on it. Not that us fat guys want to stand up too much or anything...Worth wrote: ↑Fri Nov 13, 2020 2:10 pmIt looks as though somewhat of a more shapely rear end is required for the proper ledge to suspend things upon. Re: Standing harness for tuba
Not sure if this is directed towards my comment about owning one of these or not, but here goes: it just provides support for the weight of the horn, so you still have to hold it in place, but there’s plenty of freedom of movement. It’s expensive, but compared to almost dropping the horn, that would be a lot more expensive.TubātōTubŏtō wrote: ↑Fri Nov 13, 2020 1:51 pm If you don't mind sharing your thoughts here, I think a lot if us(read: "I") would love to know what you think of it, and whether the idea could be improved on as a simple diy project.
