..."I am retiring from Indiana University this May after my numerous and wonderful years of teaching. I am very grateful to my many students for the opportunity to be part of their lives. Thank you! It has been a wonderful journey.

I am grateful to the Jacobs School of Music and Indiana University for their overwhelming support. I have been blessed to have worked with the best administration and faculty these past 30 years!

I am delighted that Tony Kniffen has been hired as my replacement for next year. Also, Gail Robertson will return teaching euphonium. The IU tuba and euphonium studios will be in excellent hands.

I do have many unfinished projects that I hope to complete. However, I am especially looking forward to spending more time relaxing with my wife Judy, my family, and my Aussie Doddles! I am excited for the next chapter!..."

He’s been teaching a long time. I was fortunate my HS sent me down a couple of weeks for 2 summers long ago in the mid 1970’s to the University of Illinois band camps when he was at U of I. Just a great experience spending a couple hours a day with him for a couple weeks. Very funny guy (I remember laughing a lot) and an excellent teacher. His grad assistant at the time was Fritz Kaenzig. Great camp for HS tuba players. I remember him talking about his Alexander being dropped while being unloaded from a cargo ship and the resulting dent so improved the intonation that he let it be. Best wishes to him in retirement.

He was my college teacher’s teacher, and my teacher retired seven years ago.

Long career. I think he’s almost 84. Heard lots of great stories about “Mr. P.”
