The Boston one has a song list with like 8 songs. That IS a lot of work. You need a laptop recording device. You need to record a sound cue, then you need to listen to poor audio of a conductor counting you in, and after all this have a decent performance, else do it all again. Pass.

I did submit a part (playing was rushed and painfully mediocre) in Scott Sutherland's Christmas Bells project. But for TubaChristmas, I'd rather meet in person somewhere. Otherwise, I'll record my own TC quartets. I have some old homebrew sessions I did on a four track recorder... maybe I'll put them on my channel and follow up with some new recordings. It's fun, it's good practice, and a good exercise in intonation, especially when opportunities to play with others are reduced.

I can't say this enough, I do not perform at Tuba Christmas for the musical experience, I go there to see friends and contacts that I only get to see once a year.

I'm planning to go down to the local Christmas tree lot this weekend to play some tunes, until they tell me to leave. And if they dont like it, I'll go busking at the local grocery store. They sure don't run off the usual dude with a saxophone, so what's different about me? Not in it for money, but if anyone gives me any, I'll shove it into the nearest red kettle I can find.

I like Tuba Christmas because it's a... well... a tuba experience with like-minded folk. I enjoy promoting and having fun with the tuba, but it's those like-minded folk that really make it fun and worthwhile. I can definitely get better "music" experiences at places other than the annual elephant herd gathering.

No Tuba Christmas and no TMEA... I'm going to have to do some driving to catch up with a few folks!

And I'll say it again... the problem with these virtual performance mashups... is that someone needs to want to watch/listen to it.

Out of the people who usually attend or drop by an in-person TC event... how many are likely to watch some YouTube approximation of it and feel like they got anything out of it? I'll bet 90% of those people just heard you record your submission of those songs!

Get outside, play some dang Christmas songs. People will be 6 feet away from each other. You're playing a tuba/euphonium. People will hear you just fine from a distance.
