Nice story, thanks!

I also just love how a lot of these "period" helicons (often Cerveny) look like the decided to make the wrap look as chaotic as possible.

Thanks Bill! Your playing sounds terrific. The notes slot very well and the sound is clean and rich. On a very cold and grey day here in Saskatoon, those songs put a smile on my face and gave me a push to practice today! :tuba:

Thanks!

I'd trade some of those hot tuba licks for some cold Saskatoon air. Just sayin'... :teeth:

Congrats, Doc! Welcome to the helicon herd.
If I'm not mistaken, that was LTrain's horn (from the "other" forum).
Gotta love those fancy buttons! :teeth:
I wonder what the journey was from Brooklyn to Lee Stofer.

So THIS is the new acquisition. Congratulations! You sound great on this horn. And I can hear that you’re really lovin’ it.
Go figure: the cat didn’t steal the show. That’s how good you sound on this horn.

Are the Wilk valves standard? They have a sexy green shine.

It is a fun tuba, for sure. It's a breeze to play.

The Wilk stems, buttons, etc. were already on the tuba, but they were add-ons by the previous owner. The stock stems and buttons were included. Those inserts are green and purple, and the tuba is gold - Mardi Gras colors.

He says it is merely patina after polishing. I'm not so sure about that, but it definitely is unique.

Could be - polished starting from black. A lot of work, and not obvious to me how it got black like that. But the result is not unattractive.

Looks like intentional chemical patination. I see that with ornamental metals in buildings a lot. The swirl marks and the slides kept bright kind of point in that direction.

Since there aren’t a lot of live gigs happening yet, I’m testing out the helicon “virtually.” Very root-centric bass line - nothing fancy. Just seeing what it sounds like in different types of music.
