I have a silver [very tarnished] bell-front bell, presumably from a sousaphone or a bell-front tuba from A.K.Huttl, Graslitz. This appears old, but very ornate engraving was hidden beneath the tarnish. A stamp or engraved name was not on the back of the bell, below the rim, where I would have expected it, so I almost missed seeing it; it was on the back of the bell above the bell collar. 2 minutes of cleaning was worth the effort--it is really nice. I know nothing about the bell, only that someone gave it to a guy and he passed it along to me. I know nothing of it's worth, but if someone needs an intact bell, this may well be for you! Other than the tarnish, it is in remarkable condition. Maybe for a Frankenhorn project?
Bell diameter is almost 24" and the collar is about 5 3/4". Likely an Eb or F horn?
If you are one of the dedicated Huttl fans, kindly check it out and let me know some more about it?

Interesting joint end - I don't see either a tenon, nor a collar with fixing screws.

I just checked that out: the end in the picture is the female tenon, which slips into the male receiver, which would have the screws. There is about an 1/8 inch groove around the whole circumference for the tenon screw to grip solidly. Nicely machined piece.

I found that equally perplexing, but I see you say "slips into" - so the bell side here is really the male side. (Think back to when dad took you aside for the talk.)

My first tuba was just such a sousaphone, and the engraving was much more dented, but that reminds me of it.
I don't have it at hand, but mine is a BBb, and is 26"ish bell and >6" tenon, so yeah, yours is likely for an Eb/F or a Junior sized sousaphone.

Now that we know a little about what this is, I am ready to sell it to a good home. If you need such a bell, please make me an offer? Email is much better and faster if you prefer: scottw46@gmail.com

If you have a scrap metal yard near you, most pay good money for brass.

Re: Huttl bell-front-- bell only
That's about what I expect to get for this bell. Mostly, if it can be of use to someone for it's original purpose, I'd rather that than scrapping it. Someone, somewhere can use it. It's not like I need to get my money back out of it--free is good.
