Python Tuba?
Miraphone has a production model of the python tuba very similar to the one used by Wolfgang Rabensteiner. I haven't seen this until now, so is it a new Miraphone product? Has anyone tried it?

Re: Python Tuba?
I first saw this on their website around Christmas, but it could have been up there for much longer. I don't surf their website that often except to look up specs.
It looks fun.

Re: Python Tuba?
So why is it not called a cimbasso? Is it just a cimbasso shaped-tuba? I actually thought a cimbasso was essentially a tuba shaped quasi-trombone like.

It’s a substantially more conical instrument through the bows and branches.BopEuph wrote:So why is it not called a cimbasso? Is it just a cimbasso shaped-tuba? I actually thought a cimbasso was essentially a tuba shaped quasi-trombone like.

It also had a tuba sized bell.BopEuph wrote:So why is it not called a cimbasso? Is it just a cimbasso shaped-tuba? I actually thought a cimbasso was essentially a tuba shaped quasi-trombone like.
it's really cool, but I think it's main appeal is to stand out.

Thanks for all the replies!
That video answered every question. It was enough to convince me I want one...one of those horns I'll never get because of cost, though...LeMark wrote:https://youtu.be/Wl-d1OMikho

Re: Python Tuba?
If I had 11,000 Usd there would be a lot of tubas I'd buy before this one. none the less, it's still coolBopEuph wrote:Thanks for all the replies!

Re: Python Tuba?
The majority of my work is commercial and some of it has a visual aspect, so it would be perfect for me. But unless I have that kind of bread, the only other horn I want is a helicon and juggle between that and my Conn 12J for standing gigs.LargeTuba wrote:BopEuph wrote:If I had 11,000 Usd there would be a lot of tubas I'd buy before this one. none the less, it's still cool

Re: Python Tuba?
Is this more like a trivial instrument or do you all think it could be used in jazz/marching settings? It surely looks interesting to me, but I would find it hard to justify the price tag without a clear defined purpose (as with any horn).

Re: Python Tuba?
I think it’s an improvement over the contra. Bell forward, more ergonomic, accessibility of slides for tuning.
Since it’s truly worn as opposed to mounted, you can’t do cool “horns up” visuals.
It’s as good as an option as most of the other setups.
