Roger Bobo live...JUST uploaded by Dave Werden !

Post by bloke »

I heard him play on tour with the LAPO around this time and also (the next day) some excerpts with the trombone section (all: played on his B&S Symphonie F tuba - including the introduction to Meistersinger).

Besides his musicianship, (equipment-wise) I respect him for not glomming on to the to the lap-sousaphone craze (which had begun, right around that time).

It only becomes "so what" when one finally understands the difference between SOLO and SOLI. Or TUTTI.

The whole Meistersinger prelude/overture is a "walk in the park" with a really good (sure, and easily-played-in-tune) F tuba...

...and (just as my "the proof is in the pudding" recent use of my F tuba when playing the Saint-Saëns "Organ" Symphony) a well-played F tuba (in the Meistersinger Prelude) provides PLENTY of tuba sound.

Yeah...EVERYTHING that can POSSIBLY be played on one is supposed to be played on a C-length raincatcher sousaphone...

I don't know what was originally posted, but Dave's channel still has Barat, Carnival and some other stuff by Roger Bobo. I vaguely remember one of the videos being taken down and replaced with a longer version (maybe?).
