CL: OKC Treasure Trove of low brass

Post by KingTuba1241X »

Horn trader in OKC looks like they have a huge treasure trove of Tubas, Baritones, and Sousaphones for sale. Even a decent MW concert tuba.

Many years ago this place had an old Alexander 151 F tuba with all sorts of engravings and stampings showing it to have been owned by one of the Luftwaffe bands during the Third Reich. It was truly disconcerting to see a swastika on such a nice, old horn. I have no idea how they got it, or who bought it. (This was in 1995, I think. Maybe 1996.) Someone there knows something about tubas and will not be a pushover for haggling, and they set prices a bit high, which invites haggling, so I don't know what to think of the place. It would make an interesting road trip if you had a couple of grand in your pocket and a whole day to fool around. Bring a mouthpiece and a tuner. (And probably oil, grease, and paper towels, etc.)

Years ago I saw a cerveny Arion there and I was ready to grab my keys and drive 3 hours to get it.

I called first, and it had already been sold.

I chuckled because the word "tocar" in Spanish means "to touch" but it also means "to play," as in, a musical instrument. So the sign could be telling people not to touch the tuba as well as not to play the tuba.
