These sorts of discussion sites are obsolete...
eBay - when you search "tuba" - shows a "How to choose the perfect tuba for you" page.

Well, how about that - it doesn't offer to show me any such page, when I search for "tuba." Apparently they either feel that I don't need the advice, or am unlikely to take it in any case. It surely isn't on account of how many I have - only have 5!

Re: These sorts of discussion sites are obsolete...
I haven't accessed that in a number of years but, when I did see it, it seemed familiar so I compared it with "The Resident Genius'" page and it was almost word for word the same. I notified Rick and he was going to take it up with Ebay.

Re: These sorts of discussion sites are obsolete...
The general notion exists that if there is one tuba that serves as the most recognized multi-use, player-friendly industry standard, it is the 186 BBb, or at least it is the standard by which many are judged (particularly by the older members of the community). On the former site, the generic answer (became kind of a joke) to many tuba-related and non-tuba related questions was "186!"
On the former site, I wrote a "newbie's rules" post, somewhat serious and somewhat tongue in cheek. Rule 13 was "Joe is always right." I don't think I ever saved those (or my instrument/player stereotypes thread), and now they are gone for good.

Re: These sorts of discussion sites are obsolete...
As much as the 186 is universally glorified these days, you should’ve heard how some young U of Michigan tuba students maligned them at Interlochen - back in the mid-1970s, as their local store/“world” did not carry them.
