Stupid rant
Man, when I played euph, it was already annoying enough as to how often the 2nd valve slide filled with water.
Having a front action instrument just multiplies that annoyance. Especially on an extremely heavy horn!
That is all.

Re: Stupid rant
Yep, and because I'm playing on this 5/4 monstrosity, it takes a bit more work to get the water out, especially without dumping it on the wood floor. I turn it upside down, pull the slide, and dump the water into the waste bin.
The other slides, being larger, don't gurgle for longer times, and most of them are on the bottom of the horn so it's not a lot of movement to get the water out. Though while I pull the 2nd, I turn the horn in a way that dumps the water from the top 3rd slide into the bottom one.

Re: Stupid rant
That is super cool. I've never seen a 2nd valve water key so I kinda assumed it's not possible.
Does pulling the slide from the ring cause issues on the key?
By the way, I got a "potentially erotic post" warning when I clicked! I assume it's your sense of humor?

...probably a reaction (from your server/spyware program/anti-virus program/parental protection program...??) to some things that some people post on imgur.

Re: Stupid rant
That pull ring/water key combo is kinda erotic...
@BopEuph, I’m assuming your Kanstul second valve slide goes “down then up” (assuming you hold the horn at a typical tilt to the left) from both ports?
If so, there might be a trick of tipping it to the right (to your right as you’re holding it) and half-valving the second valve to get the water into the main slide.
Maybe?

Re: Stupid rant
Ooh, maybe? I never thought about trying to move it to a different slide...that is, without doing the French horn spin.

Re: Stupid rant
Being a slow day here, I specifically clicked his link, just to get the "potentially Erotic post".
FWIW, it didn't do anything for me. In that way.
But the ring/valve combo is an excellent solution.

Yeah, it might have been because I was on my phone. I find the experience of Imgur on the phone is absolutely awful. I deleted the app because there was always a popup advertising the app that I'm already on before I could ever view the link.MN_TimTuba wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 11:25 amBeing a slow day here, I specifically clicked his link, just to get the "potentially Erotic post".

And that ring is awesome. I wish I had that on the 2900. I guess the soldering and bracing has to be way stronger than the traditional water key, though.

Re: Stupid rant
Did anyone else go to Urban Dictionary to lookup "spit valve"? (Definition, surprisingly, was -- The valve(s) found on a brass-wind instrument that are opened to release saliva accumulated while playing.)MN_TimTuba wrote: ↑Mon Mar 15, 2021 11:25 amBeing a slow day here, I specifically clicked his link, just to get the "potentially Erotic post".

Re: Stupid rant
I friend of mine (an extraordinarily fine trumpet player...and in all styles, who went to school at NEC) refers to those (jokingly) as "Armando" water keys.

Re: Stupid rant
When playing, I ALWAYS have such a rag within easy reach, no matter where I'm practicing, rehearsing, or performing. A black cotton dishtowel isn't easy to spot onstage when in a tuxedo. Otherwise they're old white dishtowels, although I might opt for red when it's our Holiday Concert...

I need to have an Amado water key or a Pollard valve put on mine.
