Tuba Exchange Horns
I can't remember exactly. Who does Tuba Exchange import from? And after they get them, they tweak them as necessary for quality control, right?

Re: Tuba Exchange Horns
St. Petersburg horns from Ukraine, not old St. Petersburg anymore. The quality control as far as fit and finish is better than the early ones decades ago but there's still some major ergonomics issues that the T.E. is missing before they ship out. Why do you ask, or asking for a friend?tylerferris1213 wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 8:40 am I can't remember exactly. Who does Tuba Exchange import from? Re: Tuba Exchange Horns
Yeah, the 186 clone would be Jinbao. Apologies about the St. Pete link, as that’s the first brand I associate with TE since they are the sole distributor here in the USA and they’ve been doing it since the early 1990s.

Yes I realized he might have been talking about the "Tuba Exchange" stencil horns after I posted and not actual St. Petes. Probably Jinbao.

Daniel do you know when they moved the plant to Slovakia? Was it 2019-2020 sometime?Kontrabasstuba wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 12:28 pmKingTuba1241X wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 9:50 amSt. Petersburg horns from Ukraine, not old St. Petersburg anymore. Re: Tuba Exchange Horns
This explains the terrible quality 203N piston horn I tried out early 2020. The main tuning slide was built at least 4'' too short, all the other slides were not correct either for proper tuning. Beautiful horn, but unplayable. I would expect more from my friends in old Slovakia. We need Karel Sin as quality control inspectorKontrabasstuba wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 1:04 pmYes, exactly. Re: Tuba Exchange Horns
The best ones came out of St Petersburg from around 2002-2008. They should have stayed there, but economically Russia is always a fluid situation so Ukraine might have offered them cheaper operating expenses and labor.

The most current piston model from them (from link) looks, kinda, well, odd...

Re: Tuba Exchange Horns
A big shop in Germany (FMB in Gütersloh) has an own special St. Petersburg Tuba. That means: German valves (made by Voigt, Markneukirchen) complete gold brass tubes, incl. mainslide, and optional yellow or gold brass body. The gold brass is a high standard made in Germany. FANTASTIC BBb Tuba!KingTuba1241X wrote: ↑Sun May 02, 2021 1:23 pmThis explains the terrible quality 203N piston horn I tried out early 2020.
