Re: York 692?
I didn't recognize him until the second photo.
He does not appear to have a mouth for wind instruments...
Should be a bass player...

Re: York 692?
I have another version from that photo shoot.
I agree about it being a 692. As I know you know, the BBb 712 had the smaller upper bow behind the top bow (big end) to in front of it (small end) and it was up just about touching the top bow.
On the back of my picture it says something about him trying to drum up support to donate instruments to servicemen stationed in Alaska...

Re: York 692?
Agree. There were only a handful or two (in the teens I seem to think) of the 692 made.
Who would have been playing for Columbia Pictures in the early forties?

Re: York 692?
That B&S model that came out (quite a few years ago) that was supposed to reference these...
How well do those play...and how well do those play in tune?
I believe Cameron Gates may have bought one, while still in the Marine Band.
' something different about them...maybe (??) "no upper #4 slide"...
- original nomenclature?
- later nomenclature?
- picture?

Re: York 692?
Yes...My memory was refreshed by you, and I know that you are absolutely correct.
thank-you...
...and thank-you so much for the link to the picture as well.
' obviously not really a reference instrument at all, just name-dropped "York" in promotional materials.
Further, the 692 sported roughly 100% more curb-appeal.

Re: York 692?
The horn in that publicity still looks quite new for the date (1942), and sports a later version (late 30s - early 40s ?) of engraving.
Widely known in his own day, mostly forgotten now....
By all accounts I’ve read, Joe E. Brown was in real life a “stand-up” sort of fellow - for example, he traveled with the USO entertaining our troops on his own dime, so this caption doesn’t surprise me in the least.“York-aholic” wrote:On the back of my picture it says something about him trying to drum up support to donate instruments to servicemen stationed in Alaska...

Re: York 692?
I stand corrected. He could fit in a clarinet and trumpet on either side and he'd be perfect!!Three Valves wrote: ↑Tue Jun 01, 2021 1:49 pm

In the words of Joe E. Brown, “Nobody’s perfect.”
