mailing tuba of parts and accessories to/from blokePlace
Charles Kelley was telling me how a mouthpiece component - that I mailed to him from Western Tennessee (which should have gone up Interstate 55 straight to him in Missouri, right smack on the Mississippi River) - went way over to Louisville before heading way west back to him.
Wade mailed a little piece of tubing to me, and I noticed that it wandered way northeast from Yazoo City over to Nashville, and now is coming way west back to me as well…rather than straight up Interstate 55.
At first, neither made a lick of sense to me, but then it dawned on me that the USPS is avoiding the traffic cluster-f in Memphis - due to the busted Interstate 40 bridge across the Mississippi River.
I don’t watch the news very often except for weather reports - even though I have to expose my ears to their fake extreme temperatures and fake epic inches-of-rain predictions, but I believe I heard that the interstate 40 Mississippi river bridge TEMPORARY repair - some epic Volkswagen-size clamps, and rods that might be as big around as coffee cans - is going to be finished in only a couple more weeks or so.

I just tracked that package and am AMAZED that the USPS managed to get that box from YC down to Jackson, then to Nashville, and from there to Memphis in that short of a time. When I am expecting important stuff from Jackson, one hour south, it takes up to eight days. I guess I got your package mailed during one of the two times each day that our broken USPS clock is correct.

I recently bought a knife from someone in Southern Illinois. It was routed through Memphis before coming up here to Minnesota. It took about a week to clear through Memphis, with little to no tracking. It was just like when things got lost in the mail back in December. Eventually showed here, unannounced, and in perfect shape. But I also wondered if there was something about Memphis that was making everything delayed.

The "Memphis Effect" typically involves dysfunction, finger-pointing, theft, and routinely flying bullets.bort2.0 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 19, 2021 8:10 am I recently bought a knife from someone in Southern Illinois. What struck me as particularly funny tracking that package wasn't that it went through Louisville (I get avoiding IH 40). It was that it went from Memphis to Louisville to.....
Memphis....
Because everyone knows the shortest path between 2 points is a circle. If it went from Memphis to Louisville to STL; that would have been logical.

We have received a few Sunday deliveries recently. It's sort of weird…
