Boosey & Hawkes Imperial BBb tuba (small shank w/ MPs) $1,500.00

Post by Tommckamey »

I'm offering my 1980's Boosey & Hawkes satin silver tuba for sale. It's a 3 top action valve compensating horn. Decent condition. Some small dings, scratches. It is a great player and would make a great horn for anyone who is OK with a bit of patina :) comes with a wheeled hard case and three (3) Denis Wick small shanked mouthpieces (#1, 2 and 3). The False tones on this horn are easy and nearly full so you won't miss the 4th valve too much if you once in a while need that pedal Eb, D, Db or CCC. Size is considered to be 9/8, (Bell is about 17.5") so it's got a big full easy blowing sound and that great intonation Bessons and Booseys are famous for. I'm just needing to downsize, before moving, nothing wrong with this horn. I would prefer local pick-up but am willing to ship Greyhound, or drive a couple of hours from the Chicago area for a meet up if needed.

I'd pick this over a (4-valve) YBB-321 any day of the week.

I'd play a gig on this...never on a Yamaha...

I have played gigs on one like this, and tried a Yammy in a rehearsal once. I resemble this remark.

These Imperial BBb tubas are terrific. I had the privilege of playing one in a community band for four years. Their sound has a great core to it and the pitch is great. I also have owned a Yamaha 321 and also enjoyed it. Yes, it is very tall and very heavy, however I really liked playing it and my stand partner who can be more than a little fussy, also liked the sound. I would have happily played either in a performance. Your mileage may vary. :tuba:
