Fabulous new low-brass resource from my friend Douglas Yeo!

Hi all,

Over the past few years, I have become friends with Douglas Yeo (you may know him from his current series of articles on "Tubby the Tuba" in the ITEA Journal). Five years ago, he was asked to write the definitive dictionary on the Trombone (his specialty), Tuba, and Euphonium.

Well, that resource has just come out, and it's fabulous! I was honored to help with a few of the articles, such as the Sousaphone, Subcontrabass Tubas, and Herman Conrad. But Doug is a world-class scholar, as well as one of the great bass trombonists of all time, so the quality of this resource is as high as I expected. And the illustrations are wonderful.

Interesting. I was floored to find out he's now teaching trombone at the small college blocks from my house these days. Apparently went there as an undergraduate. I might order a copy, but that seems like a lot of money these days - especially for an electronic version. I mean you can justify a hard copy with the printing/binding/shipping and if there are a ton of high quality photos and illustrations, but I just don't see how the e version is virtually the same price.

Indeed - the publisher set the price with libraries in mind, rather than regular folk like us. It's really too bad, because it truly is a fabulous resource, and it would surely sell much more if the price were reasonable.
