Looking for Video/Audio of JP 377 EEb; Tuba Demo Videos in General

Post by Doc »

A Google search yields one video from the company and not much else. I realize not everyone makes demo videos of their personal instruments, but is anyone aware of any other videos of the JP 377? Is there anyone who can make one?

For that matter, why aren't there more videos of other tubas? Wouldn't it behoove manufacturers, especially today (with restricted travel, coronamadness, etc.) to have nice video/audio samples of their wares? Most companies have "artists." Why can't recordings be part of the arrangement? Some of these "artists" don't live far from the factories/headquarters (not hard to come in and try stuff), so there's no excuse. Even shipping an instrument to and from a player for a well-produced promo can't be that expensive if they have any advertising budget at all.

Am I just that much of a tuba geek, or has anyone else wondered this? And save the argument about how you'll only hear how that particular player sounds. Sure, we all sound like ourselves regardless of the instrument, but you CAN hear the qualities/nuances/colors of an instrument over and above the individual sound of the player.

I reckon they do.

Speaking of sizzle...

I used to sing barbershop with a fine gentleman who was a Vaudeville performer in his younger days. He always used to say (in his deep North Carolina accent - reminded me of Foghorn Leghorn a little), "You gotta sell the sizzle, boy."

"Now look, boy... you're a salesman. You gotta deliver. Give 'em what they came for, son. Sell it!"
"Don't sell 'em short. Let 'em leave wanting some more, and they'll come back."

He had tons of wisdom. I wish I had written down everything I heard. One of my favorites: "Son, if you go out there and lay an egg, stand back and admire it."

Here's your stinkin' tuba demo. You want more of this?!

If I ever had 1 second of quiet or lack of motion of children in this house, I'd be happy to make videos and recordings of my playing. But my kid has literally been talking and moving non-stop since the second he woke up, so that ain't happening. I also have never gotten any good quality sound from recording on my phone, but it's been a while and maybe I can figure something out.

But when I can, I'll try to post a video for you. The 983 is one hell of a tuba, and makes me sound better than I am. :)

That video will certainly help enlarge the market for JP instruments. So it's not wholly unresponsive to the original question.
