University of Memphis marching competition

Post by bloke »

This event was yesterday, was live streamed, and the university’s head band director hosted it (wearing a suit and tie) from the press box as if he was a professional commentator (and handled it with all of the finesse of any professional commentator). Between bands, he interviewed prominent local retired band directors, the chairman of his department, other interesting people, and did a tremendous amount to promote his program and to promote the school of music.
Between the final class 4 band presentation and the awards ceremony, the university’s own band entertained all of the other bands on the field, doing “greatest hits“ portions of several of their past shows. It was kept absolutely on schedule, was tremendously slick, and very clever in every aspect of its presentation.
