King 2341 Black Friday Special

Post by DonO. »

Two months ago I bought a King 2341 from Quinn the Eskimo aka Brass and Winds. They are on EBay and Reverb but I bought mine directly from their web site. It was sold as a used horn but was an open box that, according to them, was a “show horn”. My price was $4799 and I considered it an excellent deal. An extra $150 shipping charge got me 2nd Day FedEx Air. I am very pleased with the horn. As advertised it showed no signs of ever being played. No financial interest here, just a very satisfied customer.

Now, I have just received an e-mail from them about their Black Friday sale. 20% off of selected instruments. One of the included instruments is a 2341 that looks as if it’s from the same batch as mine, priced at $5399. With 20% off that’s 500 less than I payed! Anyone who is in the market for one of these right now should definitely think about this if you don’t mind a “used” horn that’s basically brand new, for all intents and purposes. The promo code to get the 20% off is B&W2021.

I don't need a 2341, but I'd do business with Quinn again. I had a very good experience.

Ditto on Quinn. I got a great Gerhard Schneider tuba from him. Good price. Fast, secure shipping.

Probably the last time he was down to one tuba.

He often gets them in batches/groups at a volume discount, then works on selling them. My dumb ass had a chance to buy a "demo" (new) piston Fafner for $8500, and I didn't do it. I thought about it overnight, and the next day it was gone. Same story on a Tuono for just a bit more. :wall: :wall: :wall:

When I bought my King 2 months ago he told me he had made a deal with Conn/Selmer for 11 of those “show” horns. If he sold the other 10 it wasn’t through EBay or Reverb. He had one or two of them up on those sites, but don’t know if they actually sold. Maybe local sales, schools, or his own website? Maybe the one on sale has been around longer than the others? Or maybe he’s only putting out one as a “loss leader”? Who can tell the guy’s strategy? I do know that a “used” 2341 in mint condition for 4300 approaches being a no brainer.

I don't know whether this is true, but I have heard that Quinn marched quads in VK back in the 1980s. I probably competed against him. On the phone, he really seems the VK type, too…
