Cimbasso Quartet

Post by Kontrabasstuba »

Hello tuba world,
Today I would like to introduce you to the Cimbasso in a very special way. The word cimbasso appears for the first time in opera scores by Bellini (Norma, 1831) and Verdi. Giuseppe Verdi uses this term, which originally means C. in basso (corno in Basso, corno inglese di basso). It is actually a "Trombone Contrabasso". Today the instrument can be found in the orchestra pit in all opera houses around the world.
The Nabucco Fantasy by Giuseppe Verdi for the Cimbasso Quartet.
Played on Cerveny F-Cimbasso (CFC 652-5I) and
Roland de Wilde B-Cimbasso
