New Alex 163
My wife wanted me to have a new tuba for my 65th birthday, since I have never owned a NEW one. After talking with lots of folks about what is out there, I chose to get an Alexander 163 in yellow brass with a gold brass bell and a gold brass leadpipe. They have been re-engineered and the sound is still there, but most of the quirky intonation issues are gone. Well, it came in today, and is a thing of beauty! Everything about it is as close to perfection as a brass instrument can be. There is no solder joint that does not look perfect, all of the slides are aligned precisely and the lacquer is absolutely flawless. I almost hate to use it - almost!

I'm going to have to make an "Alex" pilgrimage...

You are welcome here anytime you want! We have made two trips since things lifted a little from Covid - both to see family. We both want to go back to the Smokys, via Blokeville!

It appears that those where it is customary to removed one's boots in the mud room or vestibule are more likely to go barefoot in the house.
I shall divert my attention to your fine instrument , Sir!!

I’m pretty sure that the fifth circuit is the modern era GG whole step configuration, and only looks long because you’re seeing the entire thing displayed “in all it’s glory”.
