If we're playing that game, then I'd love to make a good offer to get my old 188 back.
If you could buy a new tuba, would you?

Re: If you could buy a new tuba, would you?
Well, if I were given money I had to spend and could not put in the coffers, yeah I might. Even money in coffers now is going down in value so fast that I'd might as well spend it on stuff that might actually hold some value. But I can't find what that stuff is; you buy property and find out you don't own that either, made really obvious if you don't pay the taxes on it. And then the taxes go up and up as the "value" goes up, and pretty soon you can't even afford to keep paying the "government rent" on it. So, what? buy old instruments that won't lose their value, and maybe that's what people are doing.

Re: If you could buy a new tuba, would you?
Here's a crazy thing I've been thinking about...
There's a new, never-sold, demo tuba that I'm eyeing...
If I can buy it for the right price, I would buy it with the intention of doing some DIY modifications.

Transcending elimination vocab,
The model 98 defies logic, or - at least defies generalizations/stereotypes/consensus gentium...aka "The Science".
I’m of the opinion that it was (defacto) replaced with the (6/4 edition of) “Hagen”, mainly (only?) because the 98 “looks funny” - with such a large percentage of consumers (of so many things) buying being based on optics.

The "never sold" part is interesting to me -- demo tubas aren't usually for sale (the nature of being a "demo"), or at least not for quite a while (or if something "changes" in the business arrangement).
I hope you buy it and let us know about it. :)

Re: If you could buy a new tuba, would you?
The only people who typically don't sell "demos" are factories that keep "one of everything they make/(made?)" on display in a special room.
Otherwise, most manufacturers/wholesalers/retailers seem to define "demo" as an open-box/undamaged instrument that has been to shows. Usually, they're eager for these to disappear, and - once sold - prefer to have (after one or more shows) another "sealed box" same-model instrument shipped to them for the next show/shows.

This is where "Quinn The Eskimo" in Seattle gets most of the things he sells.bloke wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 10:31 am The only people who typically don't sell "demos" are factories that keep "one of everything they make/(made?)" on display in a special room.

Maybe that's why I like the look of that horn? I've never been fond of "the science." In what ways does the 98 defy logic? I'm not familiar with it.bloke wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 9:07 am Transcending elimination vocab,

Re: If you could buy a new tuba, would you?
I was hoping to find a few Miraphone 98's that Walmart may have over-ordered (ex: a few too many sent to East McKeesport Walmart Express, etc...) and buy them off of overstock.com.
