Mid to late 70's perhaps. Looks like the post has been deleted..that was a good looking horn.

Re: LA CL: 186 5v CC
It’s always difficult to tell in one photo, but that looks more like a 188 to me from the 80’s (nylon minibal linkage, bell taper, etc). This angle angle could be extremely misleading though, but I suspect this went fast. Any idea what the asking price was?

I think it was $5000. Looks like it has the long 5th valve. Was that once normal for 186s?kingrob76 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 23, 2022 8:34 am It’s always difficult to tell in one photo, but that looks more like a 188 to me from the 80’s (nylon minibal linkage, bell taper, etc). It was the Miraphone standard until about 1990 or 1991 somewhere in that range. The bell taper is what makes think 188 but the camera angle can be quite deceiving. At $5k it went quick, maybe Bort grabbed and ran.

It was gone before I ever saw it or knew the price, even.
A good 188 WILL be in my future, just not sure when. I think when orchestra starts back up, I'll have a better sense of my needs vs. my wants.

I am now convinced that's a 188. Here's a 186:
This is a 186 that was on CL last month. Someone snapped this up quickly knowing they were probably getting an excellent deal on a mislabeled instrument.

Re: LA CL: 186 5v CC
I've always wished that Miraphone had marked the model numbers on the bells, the 186 or 188 stuff always bothers me so much.
I won't weigh an opinion on that horn... But will re-assert my love of the 188.

Re: LA CL: 186 5v CC
My 187 says "187" on the bell, luckily. I've seen certain cell phone cameras distort the actual width of the bell throat on a few horns (one of which almost cost me a bunch of money when I thought for sure it was an older 187 and wasn't. The CC's are harder to determine based on the straight pipe into the main tuning slide...

Re: LA CL: 186 5v CC
That looks more like a 185 CC based on how thin it looks, but again..camera angle is key.
