L&H is less marked up than Holton bell, & most engr’ would be above the mouthpipe…

bloke should smooth out this bell, and stick it on his Holton tuba.

Being that she was only as thick as the saxophone bell’s sheet metal, I guess she was sort of flat-chested.

Do you - or anyone else - recognize this is possibly the same as some ancient Holton model?
…maybe this…??

Why? Anyone can see this 100 year old artifact is racist. You don't need a teacher to tell you that.

…we all recognize all of those “trigger words” in the engraving.

“exclusive”, “Chicago”, etc…

At one point at the turn of the 20th century, Lyon & Healy also made pipe organs. The college chapel at Drury University, Springfield, MO, my undergrad, has one. Fine organ. I wrote a paper about it in the '90's that the President and the Board used to get restoration grants.

Yes, I thought the same with that bell diameter and bore size.

I had a sousaphone made by Inspiration in Chicago, which is, as far as I know, a L&H product.
Really great sound. (It would have required major work to get it up to speed, so I let it go.)

So how much of the tuba's sound quality is determined by the bell?

Not many people are in the position to remove one bell and put another one on it. Swap it out. You'll never know unless you do. (and yeah, turn the engraving to face yourself.)But if this is just about an engraving then I wouldn't bother.

Now on the other hand, if you happen to find the rest of the tuba lying around that could be a project worth your while.

I believe I probably have more of it - if I were to look around, but I’m not interested in an instrument that’s almost like one that I just put together, and I don’t do “major projects“ with the idea or goal of selling them.

I was thinking more in terms of research.
I haven’t the faintest idea if L&H were doing things with their tubas worth examining.

Referring to earlier posts in this thread, probably the only ones to examine for that would be the ones that were engraved “Own Make”, as it is likely that most of the all of the others were made by the companies that are nearby - such as Holton and Conn, or imports.
