It's times like this that I REALLY love being a teacher
Got to introduce two high school students to the wonderland duets. They wanted to perform it, but I told them to do it right, you had to have a narrator that was fearless. They said they know someone that was perfect for the role, and by gum, they were right
they will never forget being a part of this, and I can promise the students and parents in the room didn't know what hit them.
I freaking love this.

had the guys play Brass tacks on the same recital. Not quite as memorable, but still a good time

Congratulations, Mark !

Being reminded of those duets both makes me smile and frown. My teacher and I performed them on my college recital (which featured about three times as much music as required, and was designed to entertain, rather than just fulfill requirements), because I wanted to include him on one number. My mother – the former commercial artist – help me construct a huge eight foot tall lobster - which we mounted on a retail display stand that I had salvaged from behind a store that was throwing it away.
A friend of mine - an organist who was really good at reciting poetry and could feign an English accent very well (without sounding like someone who was feigning one) - stood behind the lobster with a microphone and a guitar “combo” amplifier, and recited the poetry as we played the duets.
The sad part is that he was killed in a head-on car collision later that year.
(sorry to end my response on a downer)
