Music Store / Dealers - Japan

Post by kingrob76 »

I have a friend who plays tuba and is visiting Japan for two weeks at the end of the month and thinks he might be able to find some “hidden gems” when it comes to tuba shopping (he’s also going to be doing a lot of golf equipment shopping). Does anyone know from personal experience any place in Japan that equates to some of our stores here in US the feature tubas? Shops like Dillon’s, Baltimore Brass, Tuba Exchange all come to mind here on the east coast. A few searches led to just ask the TFFJ for feedback.

I asked my sister who goes there quite regularly (pre ‘Rona) for bidness (Kurary) and strangely, she said she knew more about karaoke, sumo and fugu than where to preview brass instruments. :eyes:

She was a horn player for goodness sake. (Not sake) :gaah:

Not really what you're asking for...

But this place would be an interesting stop:
https://www.brasslab.jp/

Also, I recall seeing a Tubassadors video on YouTube once, where it was a drone flying down a small street and into a music store in Tokyo(?). Looked like THE place for tuba in Japan.

Otherwise, Chris Olka has a video on YT about Japanese tuba scene... I don't know how easy it is to get in touch with him, but he might know stuff. Or Roger Bobo, for that matter.

And (ugh), who's the guy around here (or the other forum) with the Stofer tricked out Getzen who is/was stationed in Japan... he may know too.

Hope that helps a little. Japan looks like a fun place to visit.

This site has always intrigued me and it shows lots of horns that have never made it to the US and plenty that have.

Some nice BBbs here, including some Alexanders, B&S, Miraphones, Cervenys and some I've never heard of like ACE and Richard.

My wife, The Lovely Naoko, says most of the tubas on these Tuba88 pages have already been sold- they put them there to thank their customers. Also, at the moment there is no shipping in and out of Japan............
