SOLD: 1974 handmade Miraphone (Mirafone) kaiser B-flat orchestra tuba (model 90 - aka 190)
- handmade (old-school V-insert bell construction)
- c. 45" tall
- 21.2mm bore (.835")
- apparently, very little playing time (gleaming original lacquer)
- I removed a few dents, and only removed (and reinstalled) the "keel" from the bottom of the bottom bow. From just a few feet away, it offers a "new-like" appearance
- nickel silver slide tubing (inside and outside)
- 17-1/3" (440mm) bell diameter (ie. a true kaiser, and not some "for American export" model)
- amazing slimeline curved/shaped wooden case (made in Australia...no, not Austria)...' would be too expensive to fabricate, today
resonance spectrum?
"186 on steroids", though (with the bell "up there") the player will need to grow accustomed to that resonance being "farther away" - with (possibly, at first) there being a temptation to "over-play"
The receiver end of the mouthpipe is NOT oversized in the least, so this instrument is NOT any sort of "air hog".
I was going to "soup" this up, but (keeping the price down) willing to offer this for what I paid for it - $4500 (which I paid PRE-hyperinflation). Considering everything, it seems to me that it is "worth" this, so I'm just not going to consider any lower offers, at this time.
shipping?
Shipping options are currently dubious and expensive. There is a person who has expressed interest (within a fairly reasonable commute) - for whom I took these pictures. Whether they up being the buyer (??), I would encourage the eventual buyer to consider some alternative form of modality/shipping - ie. picking it up in-person, or having a friend (who might be passing near western Tennessee, etc.) pick it up - perhaps in exchange for chipping in on some fuel, etc.
pictures:
That's just a loop of string, on the mouthpipe tube.
as always:
I offer everything for sale here FIRST, prior to offering anything elsewhere.

What's the price without the piece of string?
Asking for a friend…
And now for a good-natured BUMP!

Я мог бы опубликовать мем с Джоном Белуши в качестве ответа, но Wōxis может пожаловаться на меня.the elephant wrote: ↑Sun Mar 27, 2022 8:07 pmWhat's the price without the piece of string?

Yeah. Why did I already blow my tuba budget?

Having been watching used car prices lately, it looks like I’m asking about the same amount as people are getting for non-running no-air 1987 Ford Escorts.

Dunno about pre-millennial collitch student escorts, but I did send you an "private message"....
