SOLD: KING DETACHABLE UPRIGHT BELL - bell ONLY (fits quite a few things)

Post by bloke »

22" diameter upright detachable bell.
This is the second finish.
I removed the o.e.m. "orange" (aka gold) lacquer, removed dents and creases, silver-soldered two small cracks (repairs shown in one of the pictures), am going to pick over my work tomorrow, will put a bright polish on it (right now, it's only "clean") and spray clear (or - if a buyer desires - gold) lacquer on it. I'm also willing to ship it un-lacquered (same price).

This bell should fit the following:
- King model 1240 and 1241 full-size tubas
- King model 2340 and 2341 full-size (old style) tubas
- King full-size BB-flat sousaphones (fiberglass or brass - if someone would like to have a "raincatcher" option)
This bell likely also fits:
- Jupiter regular sousaphones (I'm less certain about the 4-valve, but possibly...??)
- JP sousaphones
- Besson detachable bell BB-flat or E-flat tubas (Edgware Rd. production - 3-valve, 3-valve compensating, and 4-valve compensating models)

I'm shipping it in this King tuba bell case, shown below (for my own convenience, as much as for any other reason), after I bolster/repair the case, just a bit.

The price is $500 plus shipping cost, which includes the polishing and lacquering (outlined above).
Be prepared to probably pay over $100 to ship it, as the dimensions are roughly 23" x 23" x 15" (107" or 108" - length + girth).
Pick it up at blokeplace, if you like. As always bed and board is offered, if needed.

I did not/will not buff the crap out of this bell, so be prepared for visible scratches and traces of repairs.
Pictures (small enough to fit on your computer screen) do not adequately show the level of surface distress.
Once I REALLY polish it, it's going to SHINIER than in these pictures, but also MORE SCRATCHY than these pictures show.

remember: I nearly always offer my stuff FIRST to the TubaForum, before posting my stuff elsewhere, but I won't wait long for a nibble/bite/purchase, before posting in other places.

I picked over my dent removal work today on this, but didn’t get it lacquered.

As the kaiser bariton (aka tenor tuba) is sold, I spent most of the day trying to finish touching up it’s cosmetic appearance prior to shipping it…

…and I also had to help Mrs. bloke with some saxophone bodies…

… but if someone is trying to talk themselves into this, I’m going to try to shoot it with clear, tomorrow 😉👍 - before I have to get cleaned up and drive off to do someone’s crazy Mardi Gras parade in 30-something degree weather with possible drizzle. 😕🙄

OK...I shot it with clear, this morning, and I'm currently cleaning up the King hard case that is specifically made as a "detachable (detached) bell case". When I ship it to a buyer (unless they pick it up in-person), I'll probably put about three layers of large-bubble bubble wrap on the flat side of the case (the side against which the bell flare rests) and then stretch-wrap the case - leaving the handle exposed for FedEx's convenience.

As is seen (and previously claimed) here, This KING model 2341/2340/1241/1240 detachable upright bell ALSO fits an English "Besson" recording bass' female (either E-flat or B-flat) connector perfectly. It also plays either of those vintage English Besson tubas at the same pitch level as their recording bells, as well as in-tune.

Just as a reminder, it also will fit King (and probably King-alike - such as John Packer and Jupiter) sousaphones, if some individual buyer would like to have an alternate "raincatcher" bell for their sousaphone.

Were it that my (rarely found) California-made top-action tuba bag accommodated a 22" bell (which my bag for this pictured tuba would not fit, were the bell this wide), I might have been inclined to keep this bell and sell my 19" upright bell - but (again) this 22" bell won't fit in my upright-bell/top-action bag (though it offers an identical tone to that of the pictured instrument's stock 22" recording bell - except that the player can hear their own sound better with an upright bell).

Here is the finished/lacquered KING bell which (again) ALSO fits - as seen here - old Besson E-flat and B-flat detachable bell tubas:

Ooh that's cool. I almost want to buy it just to have for when I might ever need it. From Joe's attic to mine... Lol...

I might come off this price a little bit for one of you guys, but I believe I will hold fast if a school is interested in it.

It's a good price as it is given the condition and the included case. If I had a need for it, I would be on it like a duck on a june bug.

Hi,

Is this item still for sale? I have a Reynolds TB11 with front bell and I'm looking for an upright bell. Would it fit? Bell tenon ø is 6 ½" (16,6cm).

Would need to be shipped to Europe or picked up when I'm travelling to the US.

Best regards

… so we’ve communicated elsewhere, and the King tenon being 6 1/4 inches - vs. the Olds/Reynolds 6 1/2 inch size - has been brought to light.

Thanks… Customer received, and is happy.

WOW…
I had a whole bunch of King tubas that Mrs. bloke told me to not buy, but they’re all gone. For once, she was wrong. 😐
