Helleberg 7B equivalents

Post by Billy M. »

Been doing some research and this may be related to what Stryk was talking about in his thread.

Since Conn 2s are no longer made and I don’t like the rim on the 7B, what other manufacturer (other than those that make clones) produces an equivalent to a 7B with a better rim?

A similar mouthpiece, moderate funnel, with your choice of rims is the blokepiece Imperial.

Conn 2s show up frequently on the used boards, notably ebay, some in very good condition. Faxx makes a 7B equivalent with a Bach profile and rim.

I have refaced a Helleberg II style mouthpiece with my own #2 profile rim shape (a contour that is so amazingly good that I really can’t take credit for it, because I had no idea how amazingly good it would be). I was thinking that an HBII style cup would work out well with a particular instrument of mine, but it didn’t. (So far, I am “0:XXX” in trying to find Helleberg cup shapes that are functional for me, personally.) I haven’t bothered to silver plate the re-contoured rim after turning it. I also probably don’t want to turn loose of it, JUST IN CASE (??) it might work on something else that I might own in the future…
… but even though such a thing doesn’t exist on the market, it might put an idea in your head.

My Faxx 7B ("fhb7b"? Something like that.) Has a flattened rim with a slight dish - not level flat, nor is it real sharp at the corner, but more flat than rounded.
