The Saskatoon Concert Band will be performing on Saturday, April 30th at the Broadway Theatre in Saskatoon. This concert is in honour of Queen Elizabeth's 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne. The concert is being sponsored by the Government of Canada and the Monarchist League of Canada. The program is as follows:
O Canada. Kenneth Bray
Crown Imperial-A Coronation March. William Walton
Meuwechetuwin- A piece written by Prof.D.Kaplan of the University of Saskatchewan Music department which will feature Ryan Smallchild. Ryan is a First Nations percussionist and singer who will be featured throughout the piece.
Nimrod
Quebec Folk Fantasy. Howard Cable
Intermission
Quick March of the Coldstream Guards
Australian Up-Country Tune
The Pirates of Penzance-Gilbert and Sullivan
Salute to Bob Hope
Music of the Beatles
God Save The Queen. Kenneth Bray
We have been rehearsing this music for 5 months and we will have a sold out audience. 360 guests will attend courtesy of the Government of Canada. Just as an aside, my mom travelled to England in 1937 with 500 students from across Canada (250 girls on one ship and 250 boys on the other) for the crowning of King George the 6th. She heard the playing of "Crown Imperial" by William Walton for the very first performance. How cool is that! This is an eclectic program which features the Queen's favourite numbers and I hope we do it justice!

The Post-Mortem-May 1, 2022.
A completely full house at the Broadway Theatre last evening. Rylan Smallchild sang and drummed very well indeed. The band played very well, however there were several spots that popped up that had never done so before,( I am looking at you,"Pirates of Penzance" and "Crown Imperial"!). The theatre has tremendous acoustics and perhaps we had just never heard those two small sketchy moments before. A crowd of mostly senior citizens who took FOREVER to warm up to the performance, (very polite clapping indeed). There, rant over. Overall rating, 8.25/10
