Now I'm even more looking forward to a Texas brass bands get-together ("festival" is too much, right?) next summer.

That is going to be one heck of an event, no matter what you call it. When I get the other videos loaded, I would love to hear your opinion on them.

Re: May the 4th Be With You (Brass Band Content)
Most definitely.
———
John is referring to an event in the planning stages that will bring together the Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio brass bands to play individual concerts, then possibly a combined large band for some tunes. Lots of ideas/details being discussed.
Dallas and San Antonio just got back from kicking butt at NABBA, so they are on fire to really bring it. And the local mercantile has high-quality supplies to keep all the basses hydrated when this thing happens.

Re: May the 4th Be With You (Brass Band Content)
Boy… they would be out of their element in Round Top, TX. Plus, it’s greener and more natural there than anywhere the greenies live. And on top of that, they would be fools to pick a fight with any of those bass sections, but it would be moronic to pick a fight with the entire collection. Methinks it highly unwise to pick a fight with an entire bass convention that is healthy and hydrated.
And I don’t know why they would complain: we will simply be recycling something that came from the earth and returning it to the earth.

Re: May the 4th Be With You (Brass Band Content)
yeah...
They try to sneak on my TV screen (when quickly flipping past their nonsense/public channels - or their "news" blather/propaganda) to shake their finger at me...
me...??
feeding food scraps to chickens who supply me with eggs for my breakfast...and then I shovel up their poop and fertilize the vegetable garden...
...filling in washes and closed-off ravines with fallen limbs and branches - watching those places recover from their former eroded states...
...feeding my mowed grass to pasture animals, rather than bagging it up and setting it out by the curb...
...YET it is they who are "green", because they buy "carbon credits", or go on bike rides (toting plastic containers of Gatorade), or fly to D.C. to "demonstrate"...

It's easy to talk "green," but oh holy hell don't expect those know-it-all do-gooders to actually live it!bloke wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 1:57 pm yeah...

Re: May the 4th Be With You (Brass Band Content)
That looks like a great program. My daughter (whom I blame for pulling me into this brass band mess) was talking about the Samuel Barber just the other day, saying something like, "There's a piece that you can look at and think, 'there's nothing much there to be interesting,' but then you hear it played well and it's amazing!" I'm eager to hear any more recordings that you're able to post.
I'm pretty sure everybody else calls the The Force Awakens suite just the "end credits". I think it matches the Force Awakens end credits piece that's on the Dallas Winds' John Williams album.

Re: May the 4th Be With You (Brass Band Content)
To Joe's point, it's seriously impressive that Dallas was able to win their level (section?) with a band they founded just last year.Doc wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 11:26 amMost definitely.

Also, I'm not among the great brass players in Texas, but I'm certainly having fun now.
