"this model was manufactured between 1887 and 1988" -- I can say that about most of my horns, too.

I couldn't follow the explanation of the valves. Is there a simple way to explain them?

According to the SN list on horn-u-copia, it should be 1887. It sounds like the shop did a full playing overhaul on it, so the price isn't really bad.
