This is a 5 valve Raw Brass Conn prototype CC tuba being sold from the a collection of a friend of mine. Now, there is a story with this horn.
I have been told by more than one person that this horn was a prototype that Harvey Phillips designed himself and then Conn created. At one time there used to be the markings on the bell and body that had measurements and dimensions. Those have since worn off. There is NO engravings or serial numbers on this horn. There is NO documentation that can prove this is what it is, other than the trust I personally have in the details that were given to me from LB Oliver, who used to take lessons from Harvey and Bill Bell.
The 5th valve rotor is NOT original from the Conn factory. That was added on at a later date by Martin Wilk, which was requested from LB. This is also roughly a 3/4 or small 4/4 horn. I will say this horn packs a punch and if Conn was smart they would start looking at this horn and go back to the basics with their earlier line of tubas to produce better stuff than they've got now. This horn is the perfect quintet or small ensemble horn and honestly, you could easily hold your own in a good sized ensemble.
