had no idea! I wish I could find a picture of my turn of the century Cerveny kaiser. I always called it a 5/4 but the huge bore and immense size was as big as any 6/4.

Here are a few from the past - Holton CC & York. I still have the York laying around.

Me too... If mine counts

My next tuba (as long as a few things work out)... Will most definitely count. Uh oh, I've said too much.

Here’s one I owned up until 2007 or so. Quite an interesting 6/4 BBb.

Eastman 836 on the left and Kalison Pro 2000 BBb on the right; two very different horns but both put out a very big sound.

These tubas are too big for one day.

We need to celebrate it on the 6th of April as well...

I just don't know my local date formats well enough to say where.

Yup! A Miraphone 190 (BBb I think) bell.

Big sound with a bit more clarity than the average 6/4.

makes sense...
An old 190 C bell is too large to fit a Conn 2XJ, but will likely fit on a Holton 3XX.

I'm noticing the valve caps, which look like the Holton (rare extra large bore or standard bore) SOUSAPHONE valve caps...

If those are the original valve caps, maybe that body is one of those PRE-3XX series Holton BATs...(??)

I think the short action set was mainly intended for sousaphones. Yeah, the caps are the old small style caps.

I don’t know the model number, but I’m pretty sure it predated the 340/345/350/355. Was it the 99?

The original bell on this horn was bell front. The person that I sold it to put the original bell back on. He had picked it up from Chuck Guzis after I bought this from him.

Had this horn stuck around, this is the one that would’ve had the VMI 3301 set grafted on. The false tones were good, but didn’t really have enough edge when pushed. Plus, those Holton valves were pretty leaky. Even a rebuild would only help so much. A neat design, but not effective.

I do think that it would’ve been a fantastic 6/4 BBb had I finished it off. I’ll never know.

this is a Tuba Exchange 911 I played for a while. it played very well and had a huge sound, but it was just too large, physically for my back and shoulders. i think it was called a 5/4.
